Belkin NIAP PP4.0 Secure KVM and KM Administrator Troubleshooting – Reading Administrator Console Logs

Last updated: 5/29/2024

The Logs and Events Menu allows viewing all system and critical logs stored on your SKVM/SKM. Up to 100 log events per log are stored and time-stamped, with the oldest being overwritten as new events are logged. These logs are helpful for auditing, to see how your SKVM/SKM is functioning, or to view access attempts and system changes.

KVM logs can be viewed by logging into the Administrator Configuration Terminal and choosing Menu option 6. After that, you can choose to view the OTP Critical Events (option 1), Critical Ram Log Events (option 2), or Non-Critical Ram Log Events (option 3). All logs have a similar format outlined below.

Log event example:

20 from 64, time/date [01h 23min, 25/07/23] [ 0 ] admin1234      other admin login failed

This can be broken down into 4 sections:

Log EntryTimestampUserEvent
20 from 6401h 23min, 25/07/23admin1234Other admin login failed

  • Log Entry: Shows the entry of this item into the system log. The system tracks the last 100 events, with the newest event pushing the oldest event off the list.
  • Timestamp: Shows the time and date that this event happened in UDP time.
  • User: This is the administrator user that was being used when this event occurred
  • Event: What happened that caused the log.

This example is from the Critical Ram Log. From this entry, we see that it is the 20th logged event out of 64 total stored currently in that log. It happened on July 25th, 2023 at 1:23 am UDP. The event was a failed administrator login attempt using the admin1234 user.
