Belkin NIAP PP4.0 Secure KVM and KM Installation Guidelines – Proper Device Connection and Power-On

Last updated: 5/29/2024

Belkin SKVM and SKM units perform device acquisition functions during power-up. This requires certain devices to be connected and powered ON in a specific order to function correctly, otherwise, improper behavior will be seen.

NOTE: The following steps start out with nothing connected to the KVM / KM, including a power supply. The KVM / KM should be powered OFF before starting. Failure to follow the steps exactly as written can lead to improper function of the KVM / KM.

Proper Power-On Sequence:

1. For KVMs, connect all monitors being used to the KVM. Power on these displays and set them to the correct input being used.

2. Connect the keyboard and mouse to their designated ports on KVM / KM. If using Belkin SKVM or USB extenders, connect the keyboard and mice to the extenders, and then connect the extenders to the KVM or KM. If the extenders are powered, power ON the extenders at this time.

3. Connect your computers to the KVM / KM.

4. Power ON the KVM / KM.

The KVM / KM should power ON and default to channel 1. All status LEDs for the connected displays, keyboards, and mice should be solid green if they were detected and are connected correctly. You can now power ON the computers and begin using them.
