Setting up a Belkin router with a Cable Internet service

Configuring your Belkin router to connect to your Cable Internet service is easy using the web-based setup page.  The steps below will guide you on how to access your router's web-based setup page and connect it to your Cable Internet Service Provider (ISP).

IMPORTANT:  If you are unsure about the type of Internet connection you have, contact your ISP.

To set up a Belkin router with Cable connection, you need to perform four (4) procedures:

i.    Verify the Internet connection
ii.   Connect the devices together
iii.  Access the web-based setup page
iv.  Configure the Belkin router for Cable Internet connection

NOTE:  Images may vary depending on the type of computer and router model you are using.

Verify the Internet connection

Step 1:
Connect your computer to the modem using an Ethernet cable without the router installed.
Step 2:
Verify if your computer is getting an Internet connection by accessing a website.

QUICK TIP:  Some modems have USB ports that are configured by the ISP to connect your computer to the Internet.  If your Internet connection goes through a USB port, you will not be able to go online using an Ethernet connection.  Contact your ISP if you want this feature in your modem.
Connect the devices together
Before connecting the modem to the router, unplug first the modem and the router from the power source.

Step 1:
Connect your cable modem to the WAN or Internet port of the router.
Step 2:
Plug in your modem and then your router to the power source.

Step 3:
Connect the computer to any of the Ethernet ports (1, 2, 3 or 4) of your router.  If you are using a wireless computer, you will need to connect it first with an Ethernet cable.

NOTE:  In this example, a computer is connected to port number 2.
Access the web-based setup page

Step 1:
Open a web browser and enter "" in the address bar, then press [Enter].
Step 2:
Select Login on the upper right corner when the router’s web-based setup page appears.
Step 3:
Leave the Password field blank and click Submit.
Configure the Belkin router for Cable Internet connection
After checking the physical connections and accessing the web-based setup page, you are now ready to configure your Belkin router to connect to your Cable Internet connection.

Step 1:
Click Connection Type under Internet WAN.
Step 2:
Select your Connection Type.  For cable ISPs, select Dynamic.  If your Internet service is PPPoE, click here for more information.
Step 3:

Step 4:
Enter the Host Name in the field provided, then click Apply Changes.

NOTE:  If you don't know the Host Name, contact your ISP.

IMPORTANT:  Some ISPs would require you to clone your computer’s MAC Address to the router in order to set it up.  To know how to do this, click here for instructions.
To know if you are already connected to the Cable Internet Service Provider, check the Internet Status at the upper right corner and make sure it reads Connected.
