Cracked screens, by a wide margin. Allstate Protection Plans' survey research finds a cracked screen is the most common smartphone damage, ahead of scratched screens and cracked back glass, with camera lens glass, charging ports and liquid damage behind them. Nearly all of it starts with a drop or a hard knock, which is what a tempered glass screen protector is there to take first.
Most people wait far longer than they should. In the same surveys about a third of owners keep using a damaged phone as it is, and nearly four in ten who crack a screen never get it fixed at all. Waiting carries a cost: a small crack spreads with every flex and temperature swing, the opening lets in dust and moisture, loose glass catches fingers, and trade-in value drops the moment the glass goes. That is the case for protecting the glass before it cracks.
At Apple, an out-of-warranty screen repair on a current Pro model runs roughly $329 to $379. Independent shops generally land between $129 and $279 depending on the model and the parts they use. With AppleCare+, screen service is a $29 fee on top of the plan price. A screen protector costs a small fraction of any of those, which is why it pays for itself the first time it takes a hit. More than most people expect. Back glass on recent models is bonded to the frame, so replacing it is a bigger job than a screen swap, and a screen plus back glass repair on a Pro Max runs well over $450 out of warranty. A case with raised edges keeps the back off the ground in the first place.
They cover different risks. AppleCare+ lowers what you pay after damage happens, at $29 for screen service on top of the plan price. A case and a screen protector lower the odds of damage happening at all, for a one-time cost well under a single out-of-warranty repair. Many people run both, with physical protection first and coverage as the backstop. Our guide to choosing an iPhone case walks through the trade-offs.
Yes. Belkin's cases for iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are MagSafe-compatible: a built-in magnet ring snaps to MagSafe chargers, wallets and stands and holds firmly, so alignment is easy. Pair one with a MagSafe-compatible charger for iPhone 18 and the case never has to come off.
No. Titan SmartShield Pro glass is thin and optically clear, so touch, brightness and Face ID work as they do on a bare screen, and the anti-fingerprint coating keeps smudges off. It sits flush to the display with an Easy Align tray for a bubble-free fit. If you are weighing whether you need one at all, read do you need a screen protector.

Every Belkin case for iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max is drop-tested to military standard. The Protect+ Series survives drops up to 18 ft with airbag-cushioned corners, and the Clear Series holds up to 10 ft while its anti-yellowing materials keep it clear. Raised edges keep the screen and camera off the surface whenever the phone is set down.
Nano-Titan technology adds a reinforced layer that absorbs shock, so the protector takes the hit instead of the display. The glass shows no visible damage after 10,000 scratch cycles, survived drops up to 9 ft in third-party testing, and carries an anti-fingerprint coating. The Easy Align tray in the box gives a bubble-free, dust-free fit in one pull.

The Clear Series case snaps to MagSafe chargers, wallets and stands, and stays clear over time with built-in anti-yellowing materials. Nano-Titan technology absorbs shock and helps reduce overheating, and the kickstand model adds a hinged stand for calls and video without adding bulk.
