- Setting up WPA™ or WPA2™ security on the Belkin wireless router using the Dashboard
Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA™) is a Wi-Fi® standard that improves the security features of the WEP encryption. WPA is the most recommended security standard but usually works only with later devices.
This article will provide you with instructions on how to set up WPA/WPA2 security on your Belkin wireless router using the Dashboard. If you are using the web-based setup, click here.
Using an Ethernet cable, connect the computer to one of the four (4) Ethernet ports on the router.
Access the Belkin Dashboard by opening a web browser such as Internet Explorer® or Safari® and typing in your router's IP address on the Address bar.
NOTE: The default IP address of a Belkin router is 192.168.2.1. For instructions on checking your Belkin router's IP address, click here.
Under Advanced Settings, click Security.
Select WPA/WPA2-Personal (PSK) from the Security Mode drop down menu.
Select WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK, or WPA-PSK+WPA-PSK2 for Authentication.
Enter a word or group of characters in the Pre-shared Key (PSK) field.
NOTE: The PSK must be 8-63 characters in length.
