Daisy-chaining means you connect Thunderbolt devices in a line, so you can add more devices with fewer cables.
This dock supports daisy-chaining for up to six Thunderbolt-compatible devices (your laptop and the devices must support it).
Quick check before you start
- Daisy-chaining works with Thunderbolt devices (monitors, SSDs, hubs).
- It does not work the same way with regular USB-C devices that are not Thunderbolt.
- If the device shows the Thunderbolt lightning icon, it is a good sign.
1
Connect the dock to your laptop
- Plug the dock’s power in.
- Connect the dock to your laptop using the Thunderbolt cable in the Thunderbolt port labeled “Host”.
2
Plug the first Thunderbolt device into the dock
- Find the dock’s downstream Thunderbolt 4 port (the Thunderbolt port that is not the host port).
- Plug a Thunderbolt cable into that downstream port.
- Plug the other end into your first Thunderbolt device.
Examples of a “first device”:
- Thunderbolt monitor
- Thunderbolt SSD
- Thunderbolt RAID drive
3
Add the next device to the chain
- On the first device, find its second Thunderbolt port (many Thunderbolt monitors and drives have two).
- Plug a Thunderbolt cable from that second port to the next Thunderbolt device.
- Repeat this step for each device you add.
Example setups (simple and common)
Example A: Monitor + SSD
Laptop → Dock → Thunderbolt Monitor → Thunderbolt SSD
Example B: SSD + SSD
Laptop → Dock → Thunderbolt SSD #1 → Thunderbolt SSD #2
Example C: Monitor + Monitor (Thunderbolt monitors only)
Laptop → Dock → Thunderbolt Monitor #1 → Thunderbolt Monitor #2
Troubleshooting Tips: If daisy-chaining is not working
- Confirm it is Thunderbolt, not just USB-C.
- Use Thunderbolt cables, not charging-only USB-C cables.
- Power matters: connect power to the dock and powered devices.
- Restart once: restart the laptop with everything connected.
