This covers the following products:
Universal 2nd Generation SKVMs, Modular SKM/SKVMs, F1DN-KVM-REM2, F1DN-KVM-REM4, and F1DN-KVM-REM8.
Some users report that the LED buttons on their Belkin Secure KVM Remote Control do not match the color designations on the Secure KVM’s front panel.
Cause
This occurs because early versions of the remote controls only supported single-color LEDs. RGB color synchronization via RS232 was introduced in later revisions.
- The remote requires RS232 color messaging from the Secure KVM to display matching RGB colors.
- These messages—called #AFP_Alive—exist in Secure KVMs with system controller firmware version #12060823 or earlier, but without RGB configuration bytes.
- As a result, the remote defaults to white and cannot display correct color assignments for each channel.
Resolution
Ensure the Secure KVM is running a supported firmware version that provides RGB color messaging. Once paired with a compatible Secure KVM, the remote will correctly display each channel’s color using RGB LED indicators.

Troubleshooting Steps
If you’re experiencing color mismatch or non-functional remote indicators:
- Check your KVM’s System Controller firmware version via the admin interface.
- Refer to the article NIAP PP4.0 Secure KVM and KM Administrator Configuration Terminal – Menu 1 Firmware Versions for guidance.
- If the firmware version is older than #18281024, color sync will not work. You can still use the remote for basic channel switching, but without color feedback.
- If the firmware is compatible but colors still do not match:
- Verify cabling connections (RJ14 or USB for Modular SKVMs).
- Reboot the Secure KVM and remote control.
- Confirm port colors are configured and assigned correctly.
