Setting Up Belkin Router's Static IPv6 Connection

IPv6 refers to the next generation of Internet Protocol (IP) that uses a 128-bit address standard.  It is intended to supplement, and eventually replace the IPv4 protocol.  A few advantages of the IPv6 protocol include:
  • Better connectivity for mobile networks and media streaming
  • An easier setup for plug-and-play devices
  • Improved wireless security
This article will show you how to set up a static IPv6 connection for your Belkin router.  A static IPv6 address uses a fixed IP address which is an alternative to dynamic IP addressing.

NOTE:  If you prefer to set up your router using Static IP connection only, click here.

Before starting, make sure you have acquired the following information from your Internet Service Provider (ISP):
  • Wide Area Network (WAN) Address
  • Gateway
  • Local Area Network (LAN) Prefix
Once done, proceed with the steps provided below:

Step 1:
On your computer, open any browser.

Step 2:
In the address bar, enter "192.168.2.1" and press [Enter].  You will then be directed to the router's web-based setup page.

NOTE:  If you were provided with the Interface ID and DNS values by your ISP, enter those in the necessary fields.  Otherwise, do not change any of those values.  Some ISPs do not provide those as they are automatically assigned.

Step 8:
Click Apply Changes to save the settings.

Your Static IPv6 connection is now configured.
