Connecting a Windows computer to the wireless network


This article will guide you on how to connect your Windows computer to the wireless network.  Follow the steps below to learn how.
 
Before connecting your Windows computer to the wireless network, make sure you have the following information:
  • Wireless network name (SSID)
  • Wireless security key or password
NOTE:  If you don’t know or have forgotten the Wireless Settings of your Belkin router, click here.

Windows 10
Windows 8.1/8
Windows 7/Vista
Windows XP

Step 1: 
Click the Wi-Fi User-added image icon on the system tray.
 
Step 2: 
Select the name of the network to connect to and click Connect.

NOTE: If your network is security-enabled, enter your network key instead.
 
QUICK TIP:  You can check the Connect automatically box to enable the computer to connect automatically the next time it is within the range of the Guest network.
 
Your Windows 10 computer should now be connected to the wireless network and the Wireless User-added image icon on the system tray will be displayed.
 
Windows 8.1/8

Step 1:
Press the Windows User-added image key + D on your keyboard to show the Desktop.
 
Step 2:
Click the Network User-added image icon on the system tray.  The list of available wireless networks will be displayed.

Step 3:
Select your wireless network name (SSID) and click Connect.

Step 4:
Enter your network security key or password and click Next.

Your Windows 8.1 or Windows 8 computer should now be connected to the wireless network and the Wireless User-added image icon on the system tray will be displayed.

Windows 7/Vista

Step 1:
Click the Network User-added image icon and select your wireless network name (SSID).  Click Connect.

QUICK TIP:  Checking the Connect automatically box will allow your computer to automatically connect to your wireless network every time it is in range.
 
Step 2:
Enter your wireless network’s password in the Security key field and click OK.
 
QUICK TIP:  If your network is unsecured, your wireless computer will automatically be connected to the wireless network without entering the security key or password.

The Wireless Connection User-added image icon will appear on your taskbar once the wireless connection is established.  Your Windows 7 or Windows Vista computer should now be connected to the wireless network.

Windows XP
 
Step 1:
Right-click on the Wireless Connection User-added image icon at the bottom-right corner of the screen and select View Available Wireless Networks.

QUICK TIP:  If Wireless Zero Configuration (WZC) is disabled or another wireless utility is running, the Wireless Connection icon will not appear at the bottom-right corner.
 
If the computer is not detecting any signal, click Refresh network list.

Step 2:
Select your wireless network name (SSID) from the list then click Connect.
 
Step 3:
Enter and confirm your wireless Network Key or wireless network password and click Connect.

QUICK TIP:  If your network is unsecured, your wireless computer will automatically be connected to the wireless network without entering the security key or password.

The Wireless Connection User-added image icon at the bottom-right corner of the screen will light up if you are connected to the wireless network.
