BASIC INFORMATION

1.  What is a Wemo Account?

A Wemo Account is a new, more secure way for you to manage your Wemo® devices.  Creating a Wemo Account allows you to link your Wemo devices to an email address and password, protecting your Wemo network from unauthorized users.  

2.  How does a Wemo Account work?

A Wemo Account allows you to create a password-protected account for all your Wemo devices.  Once an account is created, other users will not be able to control your Wemo devices unless they are logged into your account.

3.  Is there a fee to use Wemo Accounts?

Wemo Accounts are completely free to use.

4.  What benefits does a Wemo Account provide over the current way Wemo works?

Here are some benefits you will receive when using Wemo Accounts:

 
  • Enhanced security by having more control over who has access to your Wemo devices
  • Improved control system means less unavailable devices
  • Easier setup with third party services
  • Less hassle when changing networking equipment

5.  What information does Wemo collect about me when I create a Wemo Account?

Here at Wemo, we respect your privacy and follow all guidelines laid out under both General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) regulations.  The following information is necessary for creating a Wemo Account: 

 
  • Email address
  • Password
  • Wemo device MAC address
  • Wemo device serial number

REQUIREMENTS

1.  What do I need to use Wemo Accounts?

Wemo Accounts requires the following:

 
  • Your Wemo devices must be connected to a network with internet access
  • A valid email address to set up your Wemo Account
  • A compatible smart device running iOS or Android™
  • A Wemo device to add to the account

2.  Do I need to have a Wemo Account to use my Wemo devices?

When Wemo Accounts initially launches, only NEW Wemo users who are setting up Wemo devices for the first time will be required to create an account.

3.  Will existing Wemo users need a Wemo Account to use their Wemo devices?

Eventually, everyone will need a Wemo Account.  But we are providing a transition period for existing Wemo users.  During this period, you can choose to not create an account and continue using your Wemo devices the same way you are now.  

If someone on your network chooses to create an account, then all users on that network will be required to use Wemo Accounts to control those Wemo devices.


4.  Will my Wemo support Wemo Accounts?

These are the following Wemo devices that will be supported when Wemo Accounts launches:

5.  Do I need to update the firmware of my Wemo to use Wemo Accounts?

No.  Wemo Accounts is built into the Wemo App starting with version 1.25.

6.  Do I need to reinstall my Wemo App to use Wemo Accounts? 

No.  Simply update your installed Wemo App through your device's app store to version 1.25 or higher.

7.  Do I need to restore and set up my Wemo devices again to use Wemo Accounts?

No.  Once you update your Wemo App to version 1.25 or higher, you will be asked if you would like to transition your existing devices to a Wemo Account.  The transition is done on the Wemo Cloud Server and does not change settings on your Wemo device.

8.  Can I use a Wemo Account without an active internet connection?

No.  A Wemo Account requires an active internet connection to function.  As soon as your Wemo devices are linked with a Wemo Account, you will only be able to control them on a network with an active internet connection.  Your Wemo devices can only be accessed by users who have your Wemo Account login credentials.

9.  Why am I required to have an active internet connection to control my Wemo devices with Wemo Accounts?

Wemo Accounts works using the Wemo Remote Cloud Server.  When controlling your Wemo devices, your App will communicate with the Wemo Remote Cloud Server which relays commands from your App to your Wemo Devices.  With Wemo Accounts, only users who you share your login credentials with will be able to access and control your Wemo devices.

USING WEMO ACCOUNTS

1.  How do I create a Wemo Account? 

Step 1:  Visit the app store for your phone or tablet and download the most recent Wemo App.

Step 2:  Open the Wemo App.  

Step 3:  Tap on Create An Account and follow the on screen prompts to create your Wemo Account. 

2.  How do I transition my current Wemo network to Wemo Accounts?

Step 1:  Connect to the Wi-Fi that your Wemo devices are currently connected to.

Step 2:  Visit the app store for your phone or tablet and download the most recent Wemo App.

Step 3:  Open the Wemo App.  

Step 4: 
Tap on Create An Account and follow the on screen prompts to create your Wemo Account. 

3.  What do I do if I don’t want to transition my Wemo network to Wemo Accounts yet? 

If you have an existing Wemo network that is not connected to a Wemo Account and you want to continue using it this way, you can tap on I’ll Do This Later when starting the Wemo App to continue using it without a Wemo Account. 
 
NOTE:  The Wemo App will prompt you again in 3 days, and then weekly, to move to a Wemo Account.  You can continue to use your Wemo devices without an account as long as you want by tapping I'll Do This Later or until someone else links your Wemo devices to a Wemo Account.

4.  Does everyone in my house need a Wemo Account to use our Wemo devices? 

No.  Wemo devices can only be linked to a single Wemo Account.  The users in your household will need to log in to the Wemo Account that the Wemo devices are linked to if they wish to use your Wemos. 

5.  How many people can control my Wemo devices when using Wemo Accounts? 

Anyone that you allow to log in to your Wemo Account can control the devices linked to it.

6.  What happens if someone on my Wi-Fi opens their Wemo App and logs into their own Wemo Account? 

The Wemo App will only display the Wemo devices that are linked to the Wemo Account that it is logged in regardless of the Wi-Fi it is connected to. 

If the Wemo devices on your network are not linked to a Wemo Account, the user will be asked if they would like to link them to their account. 

7.  Can I control Wemo devices in multiple locations with a single Wemo Account? 

Yes.

8.  How do I control Wemo devices in multiple locations?

The Wemo devices in each location must be linked to a Wemo Account.  On a new Wemo setup, simply install the Wemo device to link it with your account.  For existing Wemo networks, when you start the Wemo App on that network it will ask if you want to link them to your account. 


USING THIRD PARTY INTEGRATIONS

1.  Can I use Amazon Alexa with Wemo Accounts? 

Yes.

2.  Can I use Google Home™ with Wemo Accounts? 

Yes.

3.  Can I use IFTTT® with Wemo Accounts? 

Yes.

4.  Do I need to transition my existing Wemo network to a Wemo Account to continue using my Amazon Alexa / Google Home / IFTTT account? 

No.  As long as you had the service linked and working before Wemo Accounts went live, you will still be able to use your Amazon / Google™ / IFTTT account with Wemo without having to create a Wemo Account.

5.  I don’t have a Wemo Account but just set up an Amazon Alexa / Google Home / IFTTT Account.  Can I use it without an account? 

If you are adding a new partner integration such as Amazon Alexa, Google Home or IFTTT after Wemo Accounts has gone live, you will need to transition your existing Wemo network to a Wemo Account before you can use the partner integration.

6.  I transitioned my existing Wemo network to a Wemo Account and now I cannot use Google Home / Amazon Alexa / IFTTT.  What should I do?

When you transition an existing Wemo network to a Wemo Account, it breaks the link between your Wemo network and your Amazon / Google / IFTTT account.   
 
You will need to reconnect to the services using the Wemo App. 

7.  I am using Wemo in multiple locations.  Can I control them with my Amazon Alexa / Google Home / IFTTT from other locations?

Yes, as long as the Wemo devices are linked to the same Wemo Account as your Amazon / Google / IFTTT device.


CONTROLLING MULTIPLE LOCATIONS

1.  Can I split Wemo devices into separate locations in my Wemo App?

At launch, Wemo Accounts will support using multiple locations, but all devices linked to an account will show on a single list.   
 
We plan on adding full support for sorting into different location groups in a future update.

2.  Can I use Wemo Rules to control Wemo devices in multiple locations?

Yes.

3.  Do time zones affect how my Wemo Rules run when controlling multiple locations?

The Wemo devices will set their internal clocks to the location they are installed in but the Wemo App will display Rule time based on the location it is set to. 

4.  Can I use Long Press Rules to control Wemo devices in multiple locations? 

No.  Long Press Rules will only work for Wemo devices on the same Wi-Fi.

5.  What happens if one of my locations loses internet access? 

The Wemo devices at that location will be shown as unavailable in the Wemo App and will not be controlled until the internet is available again at that location.
