How to configure Rooms with the Apple Home app

Our homes are divided into rooms which makes it easier to organize and find things. The Apple® Home app allows you to do the same with your smart home accessories. Using Rooms, you can group accessories based on their location for quick access or mass control using Scenes, Automations or Siri®. This article will walk you through configuring Rooms from your Home app.

Before you begin, make sure of the following:

You must first have accessories added to your Home before you can configure Rooms.
Your mobile device has to be connected to the same Wi-Fi as your Wemo®.

Create a new Room
Remove a Room
Move a device into a Room
Organize Rooms into Zones

Create a new Room

Step 1: Open the Apple Home app and tap on Rooms.

Step 2: Tap on the Home icon on the upper left corner and then tap on Room Settings.

Step 3: Tap on Add Room.

Step 4: You will need to give your new Room a name. Tap Save when you are done.

Step 5: Before you can finish creating your new Room, you will be asked to customize it by choosing a display wallpaper and a Zone. You can either take a new photo, choose from an existing photo or leave it as the default color wallpaper provided by the Home app.

NOTE: A Zone helps you group like-rooms together such as bedrooms, hallways, bathrooms, etc.

Step 6: Tap Done to save your new Room.

Your new Room will show up in your Rooms list. You can now add devices and automations to this new Room and begin using it.

Remove a Room

Step 1: On the Apple Home app, tap on Rooms then select the Room you want to remove.

Step 2: Tap on the Home icon on the upper-left corner and tap on Room Settings.

NOTE: Make sure the Room you want to remove is checked.

Step 3: Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and tap on Remove Room.

Step 4: A confirmation pop-up will appear. Tap on Remove to confirm removal of the Room.

Move a device into a Room

The following steps are for moving an existing device into a different Room on your Home app. If your device has not been set up yet, click here.

Step 1: Open the Home app then tap and hold on the tile of the device you want to move.

Step 2: Tap on the gear icon in the lower right corner to bring up the device settings.

Step 3: Tap on Room to bring up the list of available Rooms.

Step 4: Choose the Room you wish to move your device to and tap on the x icon in the top right corner.

Your device will now appear in the Room you have chosen to move it to.

Organize Rooms into Zones

The Apple Home App allows you to organize your Rooms into Zones. A Zone helps you group like-rooms together such as bedrooms, hallways, bathrooms, etc.

Follow the instructions below to create a Zone.

Step 1: On the Apple Home app, tap on Rooms then select the Room you want to modify.

Step 2: Tap on the Home icon on the upper-left corner and tap on Room Settings.

NOTE: Make sure the Room you want to modify is checked.

Step 3: Tap on Zone to bring up a list of suggested Zones, existing Zones or to create a new Zone.

Step 4: Choose the Zone you wish to make the Room be part of or type a name of a new Zone. Tap Done to finish.
