The Apple USB SuperDrive™ is only functional when directly connected to the following computers:
- MacBook Pro with Retina display
- MacBook Air
- iMac (late 2012)
- Mac mini (late 2009) and later
The SuperDrive™ is designed for exclusive use with the above models that do not have a built-in optical drive. It must be plugged in directly to the computer's USB port, and cannot be powered if connected to the Thunderbolt ™ Express Dock.
