Google Assistant upgrade instructions


Updating your Google Assistant™ allows you to try new features and integrations that will be coming in the near future.  This article will provide you instructions on how to update your software using the following:

Using Google Home app
Using Google Assistant app

 

Using Google Home app
 
Step 1:  Open your Google Home™ app and tap on the Account icon.

Step 2: Tap Settings.

Step 3:  Go to Assistant.

Step 4:  Tap Home control.

Step 5:  You will be taken to a list of available smart device partners.  Tap any service with (Upgrade!) next to it.
 
NOTE:  If you don’t see devices with the word (Upgrade!) next to them, you can continue to use your Google Assistant and everything should work as expected.
 
Step 6:  After the upgrade has finished, unlink the home control device.

Step 7:  Confirm that you want to unlink the account.

Step 8:  Re-link the home control device.  For instructions on how to link your Wemo® device to your Google Home, click here
 
Step 9:  Re-add the Rooms and Nicknames you created.  To do so, follow the steps below:

 
Step 1:  Open your Google Home app and access Account icon > Settings > Assistant > Home control.
 
Step 2:  Tap on ROOMS then tap the plus (+) icon on the lower right hand corner to create a new room.
 
Step 3:  Select a name from the list by tapping the radio button alongside each name then tapping the check icon at the top. 

NOTE:  To change a name, simply tap on a specific name, enter the new name in the field then tap OK.

You should now have successfully updated your Google Assistant using the Google Home app.
 

Using Google Assistant app
 
NOTE:  Images and steps may vary depending on your mobile device’s operating system.  In the examples below, an Android™ device is used.
 
Step 1:  Tap the Google Assistant icon and select the Explore icon.

Step 2:  Tap the ellipsis (three-dot) icon.

Step 3:  Go to Settings.

Step 4:  Tap Assistant.

Step 5:  Go to Home control.

Step 6:  Tap on the plus (+) icon.

Step 7:  Under Linked services, tap any service with (Upgrade!) next to it.
 
NOTE:  If you don’t see devices with the word (Upgrade!) next to them, you can continue to use your Google Assistant and everything should work as expected.

Step 8:  After the upgrade has finished, unlink the home control device.

Step 9:  Confirm that you want to unlink the account.

NOTE:  A notification that the account is being unlinked will appear.

Step 10:  Re-link the home control device by tapping the ellipsis (three-dot) icon at the top.  Then tap on Manage accounts.

Step 11:  Enter "Wemo" in the search field.  For further instructions on how to link your Wemo® device to your Google Home, click here

Step 12:  Re-add the Rooms and Nicknames you created.  To do so, follow the steps below:
 
Step 1:  Open your Google Home app and access Account icon > Settings > Assistant > Home control.
 
Step 2:  Tap on ROOMS then tap the plus (+) icon on the lower right hand corner to create a new room.
