Configuring the Media Server settings of the Belkin RT1800’s External Storage feature

The External Storage feature on the Belkin WiFi 6 Router, RT1800 is compatible with DLNA® devices.  This article will show you how to add a folder to scan for media as well as an overview of the Media Server settings of the Belkin RT1800.

How to add a folder to scan for media

 
Step 1:
Access your router’s web interface.  For instructions, click here.

Step 2:
Click on Configuration.

Step 3:
Go to External Storage > Media Server.

Step 4:
Create and enter a unique Display Name into the field.

Step 5:
On the New Folder field, enter a new name and click the Create button.  You can also select an existing folder in your drive by clicking on the radio button in the listed available folders.

Step 6:
Click Save.

Step 7:
On the drop-down menu, select how often to scan the folders to detect new media then click Save.
 
NOTE:  The time selections for scanning are 2 Hours, 6 Hours, 12 Hours, 24 Hours, and 48 Hours.

Overview of the Media Server settings

  • Server Name – It is also known as the Router Name.  The default name is Belkinxxxxx (where xxxxx represents the last five digits of the router’s serial number).  To change the name, follow the steps below:
 
Step 1:
Access your router’s web interface.  For instructions, click here.
 
Step 2:
Click on Configuration.
 
Step 3:
Under Local Network, change the Router Name into a preferred name.  In the example below, Belkin00068 is used.

Step 4:
Click Save to apply settings.
 
  • UPnP Media Server – This is enabled by default.
  • Specify Folder to Scan – Click on this button to specify (or create) folders for the Media Server to scan.
  • Last scanning time – Displays the last time the Media Server scanned for content.
  • Auto-scan every – This allows you to pre-set the scan schedule into a selection of time intervals.
NOTE:  The time selections for scanning are 2 Hours, 6 Hours, 12 Hours, 24 Hours, and 48 Hours.
  • Scan All – Instead of having to select specific folders to be scanned, this option allows you to scan all media folders at once.

  • Scan – Allows you to scan a folder within a specific partition.
