Basic installation instructions for the Belkin Surge Protector

Voltage fluctuations, surges, and spikes can damage your computer and peripherals and degrade overall performance.  The Belkin Surge Protector safeguards your personal computer, printer, hard drives, modems, and other hard-to-replace equipment against damage, data loss, file corruption, and system crashes.

This article lists the basic installation instructions for the Belkin Surge Protector.  Take note of the following to successfully configure your device.

Power Connections
Phone/Fax/Modem/Network Connections
Coaxial-Cable Connections
Indicator Lights
Safety Covers
Power-Cord Manager
Mounting the Surge Protector

Power Connections

Your Belkin Surge Protector should only be plugged into a grounded outlet while all connected equipment should be plugged directly into it.  The use of any extension cord in conjunction with a Belkin Surge Protector will void all Belkin warranties.

Phone/Fax/Modem/Network Connections

Some Belkin Surge Protector models come with phone/fax/modem surge protection.  Instead of running a connection directly from your phone/fax/modem/network to the wall jack, you must pass the connection through the protected jacks on your Belkin Surge Protector.

  • Connect your phone/fax/modem/network line from your wall outlet to the Input jack on the Surge Protector.  Connect an RJ11 phone cord and/or RJ45 cable into the Output jack on the Surge Protector, and connect the other end of the cord to the phone/fax/modem/network jack of the device you want to protect.

  • If you fail to connect the phone/fax/modem protection, and/or network protection, the Connected Equipment Warranty will not cover your connected equipment.  Most modem damage can be prevented if time is taken to connect the phone/fax/modem protection.

Coaxial-Cable Connections

Some Belkin Surge Protector models come with coaxial-cable surge protection.  Instead of running a connection directly from your DSS receiver/TV/VCR/cable box to the wall jack, you must pass the connection through the protected F connectors on your Belkin Surge Protector.

  • If you fail to use the coaxial-cable protection, the Connected Equipment Warranty will not cover your connected equipment.  Most TV/VCR damage can be prevented if time is taken to connect coaxial-cable protection.

Indicator Lights

  • The Protected light should be ON when the power switch is turned ON.  If this light goes out at any time, it means that your Surge Protector was sacrificed to protect your equipment and should be replaced.

  • The Not Grounded light should not be ON.  If this light turns ON, you may have a ground-wiring problem in your home and you should contact an electrician to properly ground the outlet.  Connecting a Belkin Surge Protector to an improperly grounded outlet will void all Belkin warranties.  If your home is properly grounded and the Surge Protector's Not Grounded indicator light is ON, please contact Belkin for your free replacement.

Safety Covers

Some Belkin Surge Protector models come with sliding safety covers on the outlets of the Surge Protector.  This will help minimize dust and debris in the outlets when they are not in use.  Make sure to slide the covers fully to expose or hide the outlets.

Power-Cord Manager

Some Belkin Surge Protector models have a power-cord manager integrated at the foot of the Surge Protector.  This will help keep power cords organized and tangle-free.

  • Lift the clip and route the power cords under the clip.

  • Press the clip down to lock the power cords in place.

Mounting the Surge Protector

Belkin Surge Protectors can be mounted to walls and baseboards.  Use the two (2) mounting holes on the back of the Surge Protector to secure it to your wall or baseboard.  To know more about it, click here.
