Understanding Belkin 5-Port USB-C Hub (AVC021): Ports, Power, and Display Output

This article explains how each port on your Belkin USB‑C hub works, how power is shared between devices, and how to connect accessories and an external display using a single USB‑C connection. Refer to the illustration to match each port number with its function.

1: Connect the Hub to Your Laptop

  • Plug the hub’s built-in USB-C cable into your laptop’s USB-C or Thunderbolt port into your computer.
  • The hub powers automatically—no drivers or software are required.

2: USB-C Power Delivery (PD) Port

Port 1 is the USB-C Power Delivery passthrough port.

  • Supports up to 100W USBC PD input
  • Used to connect a USB-C power adapter
  • Sends power to your laptop through the hub, while also powering the hub itself
  • Also supports data transfer up to 10Gbps

Tip:
For best results, use a 60W or higher USB-C power adapter. The hub reserves power for its operation, so the laptop may receive slightly less than the adapter’s maximum output.

3: USB-C Accessories Ports

Ports 2~4 are USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports.

  • Support data transfer speeds up to 10Gbps
  • Designed for accessories such as:
  • USBC flash drives

  • Phones

  • Keyboards

  • Mice

  • External storage

Power behavior for these ports:

  • Total output is shared across all USBC accessory ports
  • Charging above 7.5W per port is not recommended
  • Best used for data transfer and light charging, not fast charging

4: External DisplayPort 5 is the HDMI port.

  • Supports 4K video output (depending on your laptop and display)
  • Used to connect a monitor, TV, or projector
  • Video output only—no power delivery

Tip:
Make sure your laptop supports DisplayPort Alt Mode over USB-C for video output.

Understanding How Power Is Shared

The hub manages power automatically depending on what’s connected:

  • Without a power adapter:
  • The hub and accessories draw power from the laptop

  • With a power adapter connected:
  • Power flows into the hub

  • The hub powers itself first

  • Remaining power charges the laptop and connected accessories

Charging speed depends on:

  • The wattage of the power adapter

  • The laptop’s power requirements

  • The number of connected devices
