Setting up and connecting wireless devices to your Belkin router

This article will guide you on how to properly set up your Belkin router.

QUICK TIP:  For a better performance of your Belkin router, take note of the following:
  • Place the router next to your Internet modem.
  • Avoid placing the router in an open location, away from large metal objects and magnets such as those found in speakers.
  • Raising the router above floor level can also help in improving the strength of your wireless signal.
Setting up the router
Step 1:
Unplug your modem from the power outlet.

Step 2:
Connect your modem to the Internet port of your router using an Ethernet cable.

Step 3:
Plug your modem to the power outlet again and wait for about 30 seconds while it starts up.

Step 4:
Plug the router's power adapter into the power outlet and wait until the LEDs are solid.

Step 5:
Connect your computer to one of the LAN ports on the router using an Ethernet cable.

IMPORTANT:  By default, your wireless router has a wireless network name (SSID) of belkinxxxx (xxxx being a unique number and letter combination) and no wireless security set.  These are your wireless network settings.  It is recommended to change the SSID and set up security for your wireless network.  For instructions on how to change your network's SSID, click here.  To learn how to set up wireless security on your Belkin router, click on the links below.
