Enabling Guest Access on the Belkin Wireless-N router and modem-router

The Belkin F5D8235 Wireless-N Router and the F5D8635 Wireless-N Modem-Router comes with a Guest Access feature that lets your visitors connect their devices to a separate guest network instead of your main network.  Using the Guest Access feature is helpful in protecting any information in your main network from being accessed by unwanted users.


To enable the Guest Access feature on your device, follow the steps below:

Step 1:
Connect your Belkin router to the computer using an Ethernet cable.

Step 2:
On your computer, open a web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox).  Enter "192.168.2.1" (the default IP address of your Belkin router) then press the [Enter] button on your keyboard.  You will then be directed to the router's web-based setup page.

Step 3:
Click Login at the upper right-hand corner of the page.

Step 4:
Once prompted to log in, leave the Password field blank and click the Submit button.

Step 5:
Look for the Wireless section then click Guest Access.

Step 6:
Click the drop-down arrow under the Radio section and select Enabled then update the following fields depending on your preference:

  • SSID - refers to the name of your guest network.  The default SSID is the name of the main wireless network with the .guests suffix next to it.  Update the name of your guest network for easier identification.
  • Security -refers to the type of prompt that would appear once the guests would try to access any website using the guest network.  You may choose from:

a.  Hotel-style - when users try to access the Internet, a separate landing page would appear first and would require users to enter the guest network password.

b.  WPA/WPA2 PSK - a pop-up window would appear asking for the guest network password.

c.  PassPhrase - This refers to the guest network password.  You may update it to ensure improved security for your guest network.

Step 7:
Once done, Click Apply Changes to save your settings.
