The Wemo® WiFi Smart Dimmer, F7C059 and WSD060 make it easy for you to control your dimmable lighting anywhere you are and anytime you want.
If you are NOT familiar with electrical work, or feel uncomfortable about it, contact a professional electrician.
The second-generation Wemo Dimmer (WDS060) has a power icon on the button while the first-generation Wemo Dimmer (F7C059) does not.
- Make sure your home has a neutral wire in the wall where you want to install the Wemo Dimmer. The Wemo Dimmer will not work without a neutral wire. View the wiring diagrams here.
- Download and install the Wemo app. It is available at the App Store® for iOS devices and on Google Play™ for Android™ devices.
- If you are installing more than one Wemo Dimmer, or if you already have another Wemo Dimmer in your home, write down the Wemo ID# found on the label at the bottom of the Wemo Dimmer. You can also find the Wemo ID on the package, right above the serial number.
- Check the Wi-Fi signal on your phone at the spot where you’ll install the Wemo Dimmer to make sure the Wi-Fi is strong. Wemo only works on your 2.4 GHz wireless band.
- If you have an iOS device, you’ll need iOS 11.3 or later to use the Apple® Home™ app to manage your Wemo Dimmer. If you will use only the Wemo app, you’ll need iOS 9.0 or higher.
Shut OFF power to the light switch you are replacing at the circuit breaker or fuse box.
WARNING! Risk of electric shock!
Incorrect installation could be dangerous or illegal. Multiple breakers/fuses may need to be turned OFF for safe installation. Please call a professional electrician if you are unfamiliar or uncomfortable with electrical work.
Confirm that the power is turned OFF
Remove the cover plate from the existing switch. Use a voltage tester to test BOTH sides of the switch. You may need to turn OFF more than one circuit breaker/fuse.
Step 2: Find the neutral wires.
Unscrew the existing switch and gently pull it out of the wall. Look for the neutral wires, usually white. You need these to install the Wemo Dimmer. Continue ONLY if you have the neutral wires.
NOTE: You may have a different color and number of neutral wires than shown.

Test the neutral wires
Use a voltage tester to check that there is no power in the neutral wires from neighboring circuits. If necessary, shut OFF additional circuits until no voltage is found.
Unscrew the wire nut connecting the neutral wires.
Step 3: Find the ground wires.
Look for the ground wires (usually green or solid copper) and unscrew the wire nut connecting them.
NOTE: You may have a different color and number of ground wires than shown.
Step 4: Find and label the line and load wires.
Label the line and load wires. If you're unsure which wire is which, we'll help you in the next step.
NOTE: Your existing wires may be in different locations than shown.
IMPORTANT: Never label wires while the power is turned ON.
Help with distinguishing the line from load wires:
1. Disconnect the remaining wires and remove the existing switch.
2. Cap the line and load wires for safety.
3. Turn the power back ON.
IMPORTANT: Make sure not to directly touch any wires while the power is turned ON.
4. Test to identify the wires.
Use a non-contact voltage tester to distinguish the wires.
Line wire: This wire will have power because it carries electricity to the switch.
Load wire: This wire will not have power because it carries electricity from the switch to your lights.
5. Turn the power back OFF.
IMPORTANT: Verify that the power is turned OFF before proceeding.
6. Label the line and load wires.
Step 5: Connect the Wemo Dimmer wires.
IMPORTANT: Make sure the power is turned OFF before you proceed.
Remove the cover plate
After disconnecting and removing the existing switch, snap the cover plate off of your Wemo Dimmer.
Connect the line and load wires
-
Use a wire nut to connect the red load wire on the Wemo Dimmer to the load wire in the wall.
-
Use a wire nut to connect the black line wire on the Wemo Dimmer to the line wire in the wall.
Connect the neutral and ground wires
-
Use a wire nut to connect the white neutral wire on the Wemo Dimmer to the neutral wires (usually white) in the wall.
-
Use a wire nut to connect the green ground wire on the Wemo Dimmer to the ground wires (usually green or bare copper) in the wall.
NOTE: Your existing wires may have different colors than those shown.
Step 6: Install the Wemo Dimmer into the wall.
Almost done! Tug on each wire nut to make sure they are secure on the wires.
Carefully tuck the wires behind the Wemo Dimmer
Insert the Wemo Dimmer into the box. It could get crowded in there.
Screw the Wemo Dimmer into the wall and snap on the cover plate
Be careful not to over-tighten the screws.
NOTE: If you’re working with a second-generation Wemo Dimmer (WSD060), you’ll notice an eight-digit setup code on the Wemo Dimmer. You’ll need this during the Wemo app setup if you have an iOS device.
Step 7: Turn ON the power.
Turn ON the power on your Wemo Dimmer at the fuse panel or circuit breaker panel.

If your bulbs don’t turn ON, recalibrate the power until they turn ON.
Once your bulbs are turned ON, follow the onscreen instructions to test the brightness range and adjust if necessary.
