Wemo Mini iOS connectivity issues

This article lists certain scenarios where the Wemo App for iOS experiences connectivity issues and provides troubleshooting options to address them.  In the examples below, the Wemo® Mini is used.  Click on the links of each scenario to view the solutions. 

Entering the password issues:
 
  1. The Wemo App does not connect to the home Wi-Fi after entering the password and tapping Join.  For another solution, click here.
  2. The Wemo App crashes after and there is a 15-20 second delay on green screen after entering the Wi-Fi password and tapping Join.  For another solution, click here.
  3. The Wemo App does not connect to the home Wi-Fi after entering the password and comes back to the password screen.  Password now shows on the screen with the last character truncated, so if the password entered was belkin123, it will show as belkin12.

Opening the Wemo App issue:
 
  1. The Wemo App is stuck on the opening connection screen and shows a never ending continuous spinner when opened after connecting to Wemo device SSID.

Scenarios:
 
  1.  The Wemo App does not connect to the home Wi-Fi after entering the password and tapping Join.
  2.  The Wemo App crashes after and there is a 15-20 second delay on green screen after entering the Wi-Fi password and tapping Join.
  3.  The Wemo App does not connect to the home Wi-Fi after entering the password and comes back to the password screen.  Password now shows on the screen with the last character truncated, so if the password entered was belkin123, it will show as belkin12.
Solution:
 
Step 1:  Reset the Wemo Mini to factory defaults by unplugging it.  Wait for 10 seconds before plugging it back in while keeping the power button pressed.
 
Step 2:  Release the power button when the light blinks white on the Wemo Mini.

Step 3:  Wait for the light to blink orange and white alternately on the Wemo Mini. 
 
Step 4:  Connect to the Wemo Mini's Wi-Fi and proceed with the setup on the Wemo App.

NOTE:  Each Wemo device has a unique Wemo network.  An example would be Wemo.Mini.69B.

Step 5:  When you reach the part where the Wemo Setup would ask to enter the Wi-Fi password, type an extra character at the end of the password.  For example, if the password is "belkin123", then enter "belkin1234" as the password.

Step 6:  Tap on Join.  Setup should now go through.

Scenarios:
 
  1.  The Wemo App does not connect to the home Wi-Fi after entering the password and tapping Join.
  2.  The Wemo App crashes after and there is a 15-20 second delay on green screen after entering the Wi-Fi password and tapping Join.
Solution:
 
Step 1:  Reset the Wemo Mini to factory defaults by unplugging it.  Wait for 10 seconds before plugging it back in while keeping the power button pressed.

Step 2:  Release the power button when you observe a blinking white light on the Wemo Mini hardware.

Step 3:  Wait for the light to blink orange and white alternately on the Wemo Mini.

Step 4:  Turn OFF the Cellular Data on the phone via Settings > Cellular.

Step 5:  Connect to the Wemo Mini Wi-Fi and proceed with setup using the Wemo App.

NOTE:  Each Wemo device has a unique Wemo Wi-Fi name.  An example would be Wemo.Mini.69B.

Step 6:  When you reach the part where the Wemo Setup would ask to enter the Wi-Fi password, enter the credentials and tap Join.  Setup should now go through.

Step 7:  Turn Cellular Data back ON.

Scenario:

The Wemo App is stuck on the opening connection screen and shows a never ending continuous spinner when opened after connecting to Wemo device SSID.
 
Step 1:  Reset the Wemo Mini to factory defaults by unplugging it.  Wait for 10 seconds before plugging it in back while keeping the power button pressed.
 
Step 2:  Release the power button when the light blinks white on the Wemo Mini.

Step 3:  Wait for the light to blink orange and white alternately on the Wemo Mini.

Step 4:  Uninstall the Wemo App and reinstall it from the App Store®.

Step 5:  Connect to the Wemo Mini Wi-Fi and proceed with setup using the Wemo App.
