Alternative setup method for iOS for the Wemo 3-Way Light Switch

During setup, if you are running into problems setting up the Wemo® WiFi Smart 3-Way Light Switch, WLS0403 such as getting Accessory not found or Couldn’t add Accessory error messages and you just want to add to the Wemo 3-Way Light Switch to the network and manage it using the Wemo App.  You can use this alternative setup method to bypass the Apple® HomeKit™ code prompt.

Before you begin:

  • Close the Wemo App.  If you are in the middle of setup, cancel and close it.
  • Know your default Wemo Wi-Fi name, the default name is Wemo.LS3W.xxx where xxx is the last 3 characters of the serial number of your Wemo device.  For this example the Wi-Fi name is Wemo.LS3W.06A.
Directions:

Step 1:  On your iOS device, go to Settings then tap Wi-Fi.

Step 2:  Wait until you see the Wemo 3-Way Light Switch's Wi-Fi name on the list of Wi-Fi, then tap to connect to it.

NOTE:  DO NOT connect to the Wemo 3-Way Light Switch's Wi-Fi name while it’s in the SET UP NEW DEVICE section because it is currently in setup mode.  If you tap on it, you may encounter the same HomeKit error message again.  Wait until the Wemo 3-Way Light Switch's Wi-Fi appears on the top portion of the Wi-Fi list of networks (which will appear after 15 minutes of powering ON the line or after a reset).

NOTES:
  • If you have two Wemo 3-Way Light Switch on the same circuit to manage the same light and you have a Wemo rule set for them or plan to add a rule for these two light switches, make the second one a secondary switch to avoid rule conflicts.
  • If you don’t see the default Wemo Wi-Fi name, you may need to reset your Wemo device.  To reset, remove the faceplate of you Wemo device and hold down the bar then let it go until the light indicator turns red.  Wait for 15 minutes after the reset until the Wi-Fi name appears in the Wi-Fi section in the iOS settings.
