How to create a Wemo Smart Home Group for Amazon Alexa

The Amazon Alexa line of products allows you to quickly control your Wemo® devices just by using your voice.  Grouping your Wemo devices is recommended for easier control.  Follow the steps below if you want to:

Create a new group
Edit or delete a group

Create a new group

Creating a group for your Wemo devices is a very straight forward process.  Everything is done using the Alexa App so you won’t need the Wemo App unless you want to change a Wemo device's name.

Before creating a new group, make sure that your Wemo devices are all set up and working properly.

Step 1:  Open your Alexa App and tap on the Device icon.

NOTE:  When creating a new group, avoid using a similar name to a group that you have given a Wemo device or another group, your Amazon Alexa might have trouble with the command.  If it does, it will ask you to confirm which device or group you wish to control.  It is recommended to give your group a different name than your Wemo devices.

Step 5:  Choose the Wemo devices that you would like to be in this group.  After selecting the devices, tap SAVE.

NOTE:  Once the group is added, you can now control the Wemo devices with the Amazon Alexa by group.  You can still control the devices individually by using the name of the Wemo device.

Step 3:  Tap Edit.

Step 4:  Once on the group page, you can edit or delete this group.  To change the group name, tap Edit Name.  To add or remove a Wemo device, tap on the device name.  A check mark alongside the device name means that it is part of a group.  A device name without a check mark means otherwise.

NOTE:  When editing the name of a group, watch what name you give it.  If you give a similar name to a group that you have given a Wemo device, your Amazon Alexa might have trouble with the command.  If it does, it will ask you to confirm which device or group you wish to control.  It is recommended to give your group a different name than your Wemo devices.

Step 5:  Tap on Save to save changes.  You may also tap the bin icon to delete the group.
