How to restart and factory restore the Wemo WiFi Smart Dimmer, F7C059 and WDS060

If your Wemo® WiFi Smart Dimmer, F7C059, and WDS060 are behaving strangely, a simple restart fixes many connectivity and performance issues.  In cases where a restart does not work, restoring your Wemo Dimmer to factory settings can resolve the issues.  You can restart or factory restore your Wemo Dimmer using the Wemo app (recommended) or the physical button on the Dimmer.

NOTE:  The Wemo Dimmer has a dedicated restart / restore bar below the power button.

Restarting the Wemo Dimmer

Step 1:  Remove the cover plate of the device to see the bar.

NOTE:  For an older Wemo Dimmer, this bar is a light that changes into different colors depending on how long you press it.  A newer Wemo Dimmer has a white plastic bar and light ring on the power button that will change into different colors depending on how long you press the bar.  The example below is the Wemo Dimmer, WDS060.

Step 2:  To restart, press and hold the bar for 2 seconds and release when the light is white.

IMPORTANT:  Make sure you pay attention on how long you hold down the bar.  If you hold it down for more than 5 seconds, the light will turn blue and you will reset the Wemo Dimmer to its default Wi-Fi settings instead.

Resetting the Wemo Dimmer

When you reset your Wemo Dimmer because you bought a new router or decided to change the Wi-Fi name or password, all your rules and names will still be saved.

If the Wemo Dimmer appears on the Devices screen of the Wemo app, follow the steps below to reset the device.

Step 1:  Tap Edit.

Step 2:  Tap Dimmer > Reset options > Change Wi-Fi.

If the Wemo Dimmer does not show up on the Devices screen, do the following steps instead:

Step 1:  Remove the cover plate so you can see the bar under the power button.

NOTE:  For an older Wemo Dimmer, this bar is a light that changes colors depending on how long you press it.  A newer Wemo Dimmer has a white plastic bar and light ring on the power button that will change colors depending on how long you press the bar.

Step 2:  Press and hold the bar until the light turns blue.

Factory restore with the Wemo app (Recommended)

Restoring your Wemo Dimmer to factory defaults will delete your device name and the rules you created.  You should only restore your device to factory settings as a last resort.

Factory Restore with the physical button

If the Wemo Dimmer does not show up on the Devices screen, you can factory restore it using the bar under the power button.

NOTE:  For an older Wemo Dimmer, this bar is a light that changes colors depending on how long you press it.  A newer Wemo Dimmer has a white plastic bar and light ring on the power button that will change colors depending on how long you press the bar.

Step 1:  Remove the cover plate so you can see the bar.

Step 2:  Press and hold the bar until the light turns red.

IMPORTANT:  If you hold the bar longer after the light turns red, or you let go when the light is blinking blue, the Wemo Dimmer might not factory restore.

NOTE:  Restoring the Wemo Dimmer using the physical button does NOT remove it from the Wemo server or the Wemo app.  Any rules you created for it will remain.  If the Wemo Dimmer rejoins your home Wi-Fi and shows up on the Wemo app’s Devices screen, you can choose to factory restore through the Wemo app to remove the Wemo Dimmer from the Wemo server. You can also delete rules you no longer need.
