USB-C Charging FAQs

A USB-C power bank is a portable battery with at least one USB-C port for input and output. Unlike older USB-A power banks, USB-C models support USB Power Delivery (PD), which negotiates voltage and current between the power bank and the device for faster, more efficient charging. The same port can also be used to recharge the power bank itself, so you only need one cable for everything.

It depends on the power bank's output and what your phone accepts. Modern phones top out around 25-45W of input:

  • iPhone 17 / iPhone Air: up to 40W with a 30W+ PD charger or power bank.
  • Galaxy S25 / S26 (non-Ultra): up to 25W with a Super Fast Charging-compatible PD/PPS source.
  • Galaxy S25 Ultra / S26 Ultra: up to 45W.
  • Pixel 10 series: up to 30W (Pro models).

A 20W or 30W USB-C power bank is plenty for any current phone. Higher-wattage models (65W and 140W) are designed for tablets and laptops.

Yes, if the power bank's output wattage matches what your laptop needs to charge. A 13" MacBook Air or Windows ultrabook will charge with a 60W USB-C power bank. A 14" or 16" MacBook Pro, gaming laptop, or USB-C workstation needs 100W or more; the Laptop Power Bank 25K outputs 140W using USB PD 3.1 EPR, enough for the largest USB-C laptops Belkin supports. Pair it with a 240W-rated USB-C cable to keep up.

Use a USB-C cable rated for the wattage you need. Cables fall into three rough tiers:

  • 60W (3A): standard USB-C charge cables; covers phones, tablets, earbuds.
  • 100W (5A): needed for full-speed laptop charging on most ultrabooks.
  • 240W (5A EPR): required to unlock USB PD 3.1 Extended Power Range from a 140W or higher power bank.

If your phone is charging slowly from a high-wattage power bank, the cable is the most common culprit. See our USB cables ultimate guide for more detail.

No. USB Power Delivery (PD) is the universal USB-C fast charging standard used by Apple, Google, Samsung, and most laptop makers. Qualcomm Quick Charge is a separate proprietary protocol used on some Android phones. Belkin USB-C power banks support USB PD and PPS (the PD profile that Galaxy phones use for Super Fast Charging). For more, see PPS vs PD.

Yes. The Nintendo Switch 2 charges over USB-C using PD; a 20W or higher USB-C power bank will charge it in handheld or tabletop mode. For long sessions, a 10,000 mAh or 20,000 mAh power bank with 30W output gives multiple hours of extra play. The Power Bank 20K 30W for Nintendo Switch 2 (20,000 mAh / 74 Wh) is tuned for the console specifically.

Most Belkin 10,000 mAh (37 Wh) USB-C power banks accept 18-30W input and recharge fully in 2-3 hours. Larger 20,000 mAh (74 Wh) and 25,000 mAh (92.5 Wh) laptop power banks support 60W input and recharge in 2-4 hours from empty. The recharge time scales with the wall charger you use; a 20W charger fills a 10,000 mAh power bank in under 3 hours, while a 5W phone charger from years ago can take 8+ hours.

Yes. Airline rules use watt-hour (Wh) capacity, not output wattage, to gate what's allowed in carry-on. A 140W spec is how fast the power bank can charge a laptop, not how much energy it stores. The Laptop Power Bank 25K rates at 25,000 mAh / 92.5 Wh, comfortably under the 100 Wh TSA carry-on limit. Smaller USB-C models in this lineup are even further below: 20,000 mAh = 74 Wh, 10,000 mAh = 37 Wh, 5,000 mAh = 18.5 Wh. As long as the power bank stays in carry-on (never checked) and is under 100 Wh, the high output wattage doesn't change its travel status. For the full TSA carry-on rules and 2025 airline updates, see the FAQs on our portable power banks parent page or our TSA travel guide.
