Getting to know the Wemo Rules

One of the major selling points of the Wemo® line of products is the ability to control them anywhere you are in the world.

With the different Wemo Rules, you can easily set the day and time your Wemo device should turn ON or OFF. Below is the list of these Rules.

What kind of Rules can I make?

This is the most basic Rule that you can make. This Rule lets you control your Wemo device to turn ON and OFF at a time you set.

TURN ON/OFF	Tap a device, then select the function your device will do.	Choose On until time, On, or Off
WHEN	Specify the scheduled times for the Rule by tapping under this section. Auto-off Timer

The Auto-off Timer Rule allows your Wemo device to turn OFF some time (which you can set) after you turned it ON. A great use for this is to make sure your Wemo Light Switch turns OFF automatically a few minutes after you leave your house, making it one less thing to worry about.

NOTE: When using the Wemo Insight, the Auto-off Timer will only function when it is not in Standby mode. If the Wemo Insight is in Standby mode while the Auto-off Timer is running, it will cancel the timer until the Wemo Insight moves out of Standby mode. AFTER IT'S ON FOR	Select the duration for timer. You may also tap on Set to specify a time you prefer.

Long Press

Requires: Other Wemo devices to trigger the Rule on.

The Long Press Rule allows your Wemo to control one or more Wemo devices just by pressing the power button on your Light Switch for 2 seconds. But unlike other Rules, a Wemo device can belong to only one Long Press Rule at a time. Long Press Rules do not have a specific time they are able to run and are active all day.

When the indicator light of your Wemo Light Switch blinks rapidly three times, it indicates that this Rule has been activated.

LONG PRESS	Select the device you want to trigger the Long Press Rule.
DOES THIS	Select the function you want the Rule to do.	Toggle – On the first long press, turns OFF all Wemo devices added to the Rule. The following long press turns ON the devices if they are OFF, and vice versa. Turn On – Turn ON all Wemo devices added. Turn Off – Turn OFF all Wemo devices added. Away Mode – This will make added Wemo devices turn ON and OFF randomly to make it look like you're home.

Motion Detector

The Motion Detector Rule is designed to use your Wemo Motion to turn ON or OFF a Wemo device of your choice during a period of your choice.

TURN ON/OFF	Select the device you want to trigger the Rule. Each Wemo device can perform a different action when this Rule is triggered.	on, then… – Turn a Wemo ON when motion is sensed, then OFF after a time duration of your choice when motion is no longer sensed. off – Turn a Wemo OFF if motion is sensed.
IF	This is your Wemo device that detects the motion to trigger the Rule.
WHEN	Specify the scheduled times for the Rule by tapping under this section.	ALL DAY - Allows sensing throughout the day. ON or OFF – Toggle the button to specify a time or schedule at Sunrise or Sunset. - set the time/s your Rule will trigger - set Sunrise and/or Sunset as your trigger times DAYS – The Rule will trigger on the days that you specify.

2. AUTOMATE

Away Mode

Away Mode turns devices ON and OFF to give the appearance that someone is home. The Wemo devices you include in this Rule will turn ON and OFF at different times throughout the duration of the Rule.

Some highlights about this Rule:

Wemo devices that are controlled by this Rule will turn ON and OFF at random during the duration of this Rule.
Once turned ON, a Wemo will stay ON for at least 30 minutes.
When turned OFF, a Wemo will stay OFF for a minimum of 1 minute.
The Wemo devices do not turn ON immediately when this Rule starts. Some may stay OFF for a length of time after the Rule begins.

QUICK TIP: If your Wemo App doesn't work with the Away Mode Rule or creating a separate Away Mode Rule for each Wemo device doesn't work, you can resolve these by creating just one Away Mode Rule for multiple Wemo devices.

3. GET NOTIFIED

Motion Alerts

Requires: Wemo Motion

Motion Alerts Rule is designed to send a notification to you when motion is sensed. You can choose the times of day, what to say and how often you want to get the notifications.

NOTIFY ME	Choose how you will be notified. Message – Customize the notification message. How Often – Select how often you want to be notified.
RULE NAME	Customize the name of your Rule. This is especially helpful when you have multiple Rules.

Usage Alerts

Requires: Wemo Insight Smart Plug, F7C029

A Usage Alerts Rule is specific to the Wemo Insight Smart Plug only. Besides telling you how much power the Wemo Insight is supplying to the device plugged into it, you can also have it let you know when it is turned ON or OFF or left on for a long time.

NOTIFY ME	Choose how you will be notified. Message – Customize the notification message. How Often – Select how often you want to be notified.

How do Rules work with my Wemo devices?

Using your Wemo App, you can create Rules for any of your Wemo devices. These Rules are stored on your Wemo device and a copy is kept in your Wemo App for your reference. Anytime you bring a new Wemo device or install a new Wemo App on your network, the Rules will be copied over to that new Wemo device or Wemo App.

Your Wemo knows the Rules
All Rules are ran by the Wemo device itself not the Wemo App. This allows your Wemo device to follow Rules without the Wemo App being ON, or even if your internet connection goes down.

One Rule to control them all
A single Rule can be created that controls multiple Wemo devices at the same time. This means you can have a Rule to turn ON all of your Wemo Light Switches at a certain time you will set.

Multiple Rules on a single device
Each Wemo device can have multiple Rules set to control it. An example would be one Rule to turn your lights ON in the morning and OFF when you leave for work, and another Rule to turn them ON again at sunset before you get home.

A Rule for every day of the week
Rules can also be set to run on different days of the week allowing you to have them run as often as you like.
