This means that once a product is ready to be disposed of by the consumer, instead of going to landfill, its plastic is recycled into pellets where it can be reused again. The recycled pellets are often mixed with virgin plastic to retain quality. Throughout 2023 we’ll be transitioning some of our best-selling products and new innovations to 72-75% recycled material in the product housing.
We decided to transition to PCR instead of creating a new range. This contributes to a circular economy and makes a bigger impact to reducing product level emissions. We landed at 72-75% (and not 100%) because we didn’t want to compromise our quality test requirements. We challenged ourselves to ensure this new plastic retains the same look, feel and superb performance our customers expect.
Post Industrial Recycled (PIR): this is plastic waste generated within the manufacturing process.
Ocean plastic: is exactly as it sounds, post-consumer plastic which is removed from the seas.
Ocean Bound plastic/Marine plastic: – Plastic that is collected within 50 km from shores preventing it from entering the oceans.
Bio Plastic: created from renewable biomass sources, anything from sawdust to mushrooms.
Incorporating PCR has translated to a reduction in CO2 emissions.
Minimises use of raw materials and repurposes waste that would otherwise go to landfill.
Verified and authentic materials. We can authenticate at the source, as not all plastic is made the same.
Structural integrity is equivalent to virgin plastic, so there is no comprise to Belkin quality and performance.
Typically, our packaging uses a combination of FSC paper and card* alongside small elements of RPET plastic. We already use 100% Recycled PET (RPET) where possible, exceeding our goal to incorporate at least 30% RPET in our packaging when plastics are used. We’ve worked hard to develop new outer packaging design that is sturdy enough to do the job without the use of plastic and are transitioning to 100% plastic free outer packaging where possible.
*We require a chain-of-custody certification to ensure that our paper is sourced from responsibly managed forests and is compliant with all applicable local and international laws.
