Updating your Belkin adapter’s driver


Updating your Belkin network adapter's driver fixes the previous version's bugs and improves its functionality.  This action must be done especially if you start experiencing connectivity issues with the computer where you installed the device.  To perform an update, follow the steps below:

Downloading the latest driver
Installing the drivers

NOTE:  In this article, the Belkin N150 Enhanced Wireless USB Network Adapter, F6D4050 v1 is used as an example.

 
Downloading the latest driver

Step 1:
Go to the Belkin Support page, enter the model number of your device in the search bar and press [Enter].

NOTE:  Your product's model and version number is printed on the device sticker.  For an illustration, click the How do I find my model number? link on the website or click here.

Step 2:
Click on your product under the Product Results section.

QUICK TIP:  You can also scroll-down on the Downloads section under Support Results and click on your product's download article then proceed to Step 4.

Step 3:
Click Downloads / Firmware >.

Step 4:
On the download article's page, select the hardware version of your device.

Step 5:
Click the Download link that corresponds to your network adapter's driver.


NOTE:  You may be asked to specify a location to save the file or it may automatically be saved to a default download location depending on the settings of your web browser.

The latest driver is now downloaded to your computer.  Continue with the procedures below to learn how to install the driver.
 
Installing the drivers

Below are the step-by-step procedures in installing the drivers.  Choose your device's OS to start.
 
NOTE:  This article assumes that you have already plugged in the adapter to your computer.
 
Windows® 8
Windows 7 / Windows Vista®
Windows XP

 
Windows® 8
 
Step 1:
On the Desktop, hover your mouse over the top-right corner to reveal the Charms bar, then click the Settings User-added image icon.

Step 2:
Click the User-added image icon.

Step 3:
Double-click the User-added image icon.

Step 4:
Expand the Network adapters list.  Right-click on your Belkin network adapter, then click the Update Driver Software… option.  A new window will open.

Step 5:
In the new window, click Browse my computer for driver software to specify a location or a file to be used for updating your network adapter.

Step 6:
Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer to specify the driver file.

Step 7:
Click Have Disk to browse for the driver file saved on your computer.  A new window will open.

NOTE:  It is recommended to enable the Show compatible hardware option to hide options that are not applicable for your device.

Step 8:
In the new window, click Browse.  A file browser window will open.

Step 9:
In the file browser window, navigate to the location of the driver file you downloaded.  Select the file, then click Open.

IMPORTANT:  Make sure to select the driver file according to the architecture of your operating system (32-bit or 64-bit).

Step 10:
Click Next to begin installing your selected driver.

Step 11:
Click Close when the update is finished.  If Windows asks you to restart your computer, do so.
 
Your network adapter is now updated with the latest driver for Windows 8.
 
Windows 7 / Windows Vista®
 
Step 1:
Click the Pearl User-added image icon.

Step 2:
Right-click Computer then click Properties.

Click Device Manager.

Step 4:
Expand the Network adapters list.  Right-click on your Belkin network adapter, then click Update Driver Software… option.  A new window will open.

Step 5:
In the new window, click Browse my computer for driver software to specify a location or a file to be used for updating your network adapter.

Step 6:
Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer to specify the driver file.

Step 7:
Click Have Disk to browse for the driver file saved on your computer.  A new window will open.

Step 8:
In the new window, click Browse.  A file browser will open.

Step 9:
In the file browser, navigate to the location of the driver file you downloaded.  Select the file, then click Open.

Click Next to begin installing your selected driver.

Step 11:
Click Close when the update is finished.  If Windows asks you to restart your computer, do so.

Your network adapter is now updated with the latest driver for Windows 7 / Windows Vista.
 
Windows XP
 
Step 1:
Right-click My Computer then click Properties.

Step 2:
Click the Hardware tab then click Device Manager.

Step 3:
Click Network adapters.  Right-click your Belkin network adapter, then click Update Driver.

Step 4:
The Hardware Update Wizard window will immediately appear.  Click Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) then click Next.

Step 5:
Select Search for the best driver in these locations and check Include this location in the search.  Then, click Browse.

Step 6:
Browse to the location where the driver files were extracted and click the folder.  When the folder is selected, click OK.

Step 7:
Click Next to update the drivers of your Belkin network adapter.

Step 8:
Click Finish.

 
Your network adapter is now updated with the latest driver for Windows XP.
