How To Fix a Black Screen or HDCP Error When Playing 4K Content (AVC024)

The Belkin ConnectAir (AVC024) is designed to wirelessly cast high-definition video from your device to a TV or monitor with a maximum resolution of 1080p at 60Hz.

However, you may be experiencing a black screen, an HDCP error, or a "protected content" message.

This occurs when a source device (like a phone or laptop) attempts to send a 4K signal. Because the AVC024 is not built to process 4K resolution or the specific security keys associated with 4K streams, the display fails to show the image.

How To Fix It

To resolve this, we need to align your device’s output with the adapter’s capabilities. By manually adjusting your resolution settings to 1080p, we can bypass the 4K conflict and allow the video to pass through to your TV.

Please try the options below to synchronize your resolution.

Steps To Resolve

Option 1: Adjust your device’s output resolution (Recommended)

This ensures that your phone or laptop sends a 1080p signal for everything displayed, preventing the adapter from being overwhelmed by a 4K signal.

  1. Open the Display or Screen Resolution settings on your source device (phone, tablet, or laptop).
  2. Locate the resolution options. If you see options for 4K or 2160p, switch the setting to 1080p (or 1920 x 1080).
  3. Once the resolution is changed, reconnect to the AVC024.
  4. Try playing the video again.

Option 2: Adjust the quality settings within the streaming app

Some streaming apps (like Netflix or YouTube) operate independently of your main device settings and may try to force a 4K stream automatically. We need to tell the specific app to send a compatible video feed.

  1. Open the app you are trying to stream from.
  2. Locate the video Quality or Video Settings menu (often found via a gear icon or in the account playback settings).
  3. Select a version that is not 4K. Choose 1080p (HD) or 720p.
  4. Play the video again through the AVC024.

Still seeing a black screen?

If the issue persists, ensure the video has actually switched resolutions by restarting the streaming app, or try playing a different non-4K video to confirm the connection is working.
