1.  What is the Wemo WiFi Smart Plug, WSP080?

The Wemo WiFi Smart Plug, WSP080 allows you to control and view the status of your devices from anywhere and set rules to automate turning your devices ON and OFF.  The device will send notifications, and will work with rules and other Wemo® products in the ecosystem.  It is the simple entry-point to the smart home experience.  To learn more about the Wemo WiFi Smart Plug, click here.

6.  What is Overheat Protection?

The Wemo WiFi Smart Plug was designed with safety in mind.  Overheat Protection was added to make sure that your Wemo WiFi Smart Plug or what you have plugged into it returns to safe operating temperature when overheating occurs.  Click here for more information.

7.  What safety information should I keep in mind?

When using a device with the Wemo WiFi Smart Plug always remember the following:
 
  • Do not exceed the maximum rated output wattage of 1800W
  • If you are plugging a surge protector or power tap into your Wemo WiFi Smart Plug, the maximum wattage of all the devices plugged into the power tap or surge protector must not exceed 1800W.
  • Make sure the Wemo WiFi Smart Plug is powered OFF before plugging a device into it.
  • If placing the Wemo WiFi Smart Plug in an enclosed place or behind pieces of furniture, there should be at least an inch of clearance on all sides.
  • Do not remove or modify the grounding pin on the Wemo WiFi Smart Plug.

3.  What is a Wemo account?

A Wemo account is a new and more secure way to access and control your Wemo devices.  It allows you to password-protect your Wemo devices and manage access permissions.  On top of enhanced security, having a Wemo account improves the reliability of your Wemos as well as the ability to control multiple locations from a single smartphone or tablet.  To learn more, click here.

5.  Do I need to create a Wemo account?

If you are a first-time user and trying to set up the Wemo WiFi Smart Plug, then yes, a Wemo account is required. 

If you have an existing Wemo network, this is currently optional.  However, it is highly recommended to create a Wemo account.

6.  How do I confirm and activate a new Wemo account?

To activate and use your Wemo account, you will need to open an account verification email.  Click here for detailed instructions.

7.  How do I change my Wemo account password?

Changing your Wemo account password is easy and can be done through the Wemo app.  For detailed instructions, click here.

8.  What is the Devices section on the Wemo app?

The Devices section of your Wemo app is where all linked devices to your Wemo account is located.  For more information, click here.

9.  What is the Edit screen on the Wemo app?

The Edit screen on the Wemo app is where you can reset/restore your Wemo device or make customizations like changing the name and photo of the device

TROUBLESHOOTING

1.  My Wemo app is not detecting my Wemo WiFi Smart Plug.  What could be the problem?

Make sure that you are using the Wemo app version 1.25 or later.

2.  How do I reset or restart the Wemo WiFi Smart Plug?

3.  How can I check if my Wemo has the latest firmware?

You can check the firmware of your Wemo through the Wemo app.  Follow the instructions below:

 
Step 1:  Launch the Wemo app.

Step 2:  Tap on the More section if you are using an iOS device or tap on the gear icon if you are using an Android device.

Step 3:  Tap on Settings & About.

Step 4:  Go to Hardware Info, then check your Wemo device.

Step 5:  Locate the Firmware Version of your Wemo device. 

4.  How do I move my existing Wemo installation to a Wemo account?

5.  How do I link Wemo devices to my Wemo account?

When launching the Wemo app that is connected to your Wi-Fi, it will scan to see if there are unlinked Wemo devices on the network.  If there are unlinked Wemo devices, you will be prompted to add them to your Wemo account.  Click here for instructions on how you can link your Wemo devices to your Wemo account.

6.  Why is the Wemo app asking to reconnect to third-party Partners?

When you move your existing Wemo installation to a Wemo account, there are changes made on the Wemo Cloud Server regarding the way your Wemo devices are grouped and controlled.  These changes will unlink the connection with any third-party control services (called "Partners") that you may use to control your Wemo devices.

The Wemo app will only display a list of the Partner services that you have linked with your Wemo devices.  Tap the Reconnect button to reconnect any service you want to use.  Tap I’ll Do This Later if you would rather do it at another time.

8.  How do I log out of a Wemo account?

By default, your Wemo app will stay logged into the last Wemo account you used.  To log out, follow the steps here.

10.  How do I change Wemo promotional email settings?

When creating your Wemo account you are given the option to opt-in to receive emails from Wemo for upcoming promotions, information about new products, and invitations to test beta software and products.  If you later decide that you would like to opt-in or opt-out of receiving these emails, you can modify your settings through the Wemo app.  Click here for instructions. 

11.  How do I change the email address of my Wemo account?

Your Wemo account is linked to an email address of your choice.  If you wish to change this email address, click here for instructions.

12.  How do I change the name of my Wemo account?

During your Wemo account setup, you were prompted to give a nickname for your account.  If you would like to change that name, click here for instructions. 

13.  I forgot my Wemo account password, what should I do?

If you forgot your Wemo account password, you can reset it using the Wemo app.  Click here for instructions.

14.  How do I close a Wemo account?

IMPORTANT:  Closing a Wemo account is permanent and cannot be reversed.
