This article will guide you through the steps in setting up your 1st gen Wemo Mini. If your Wemo Mini has an Apple® HomeKit™ code (2nd gen) and you want to set it up with the Apple Home app, click here for instructions.
Before you begin:
- Know your default Wemo Wi-Fi name which is located on the product label at the back of the Wemo Mini. The name will appear as Wemo.Mini.xxx, where xxx is the last three digits of the serial number.
- Know the settings of your existing Wi-Fi (name and password).
- Make sure to have the latest Wemo App available on the App Store®.
Step 1: Plug your Wemo Mini into the power outlet.
Step 2: Wait for the status light to alternately blink orange and white. This signifies that the Wemo Mini is ready for setup.
Step 3: Go to Settings on your iOS device and connect to the Wemo Wi-Fi. The name will appear as Wemo.Mini.xxx, where xxx is the last three digits of the serial number.
In the example below, Wemo.Mini.4A2 is the Wemo network.
Step 2: Wait for the status light to alternately blink orange and white. This signifies that the Wemo Mini is ready for setup.
Step 3: Go to Settings on your iOS device and connect to the Wemo Wi-Fi. The name will appear as Wemo.Mini.xxx, where xxx is the last three digits of the serial number.
In the example below, Wemo.Mini.4A2 is the Wemo network.
QUICK TIP: If you are unable to locate your Wemo Mini on the Wi-Fi list, you may need to restore it to factory defaults. To learn how, click here.
Step 4: Launch the App.
Step 5: The Personalize screen will allow you to modify the name and image of your Wemo Mini. You can either make the changes at this point or just tap Next and make the changes later.
Step 6: If prompted, enter a valid email address and tap Next.
NOTE: Unless the Wemo App has been uninstalled then reinstalled on your mobile device, your email address will only be verified once.
Step 7: Select your home Wi-Fi and enter your password.

Step 8: Wait while your Wemo Mini connects to your home Wi-Fi. Once this is complete, you will receive a Remote Access Enabled message. Remote Access allows you to control your device when you are away from home.
NOTE: If Remote Access fails, you can continue without it being enabled. You can enable it after setup by going to More > Remote Access and tap Enable.
The Wemo Mini is now successfully set up.
