A letter from CEO Steven Malony

Team,

We are the global accessories leader that the world is watching, and it is clear to me that our commercial success can only be as viable as our commitment to our people, the communities we serve, and our planet.

This Earth Month, I want to take a moment to reflect on the past 40 years of Belkin’s rich history. From building the first cable that would connect the Apple IIc (happy birthday, Lisa!) to a parallel printer in 1983, to delivering our latest iPhone Mount with MagSafe designed for Apple’s Continuity Camera to the market in 2022, we have been innovating, connecting, and amplifying consumers’ experiences with their tech for decades. In fact, we have been defining these experiences.

It takes courage, endurance, transparency, and an expectation for excellence that never wavers. I’ve had the great honor to be a part of this legendary team for nearly two decades now and it’s confirmed – this is the greatest team on the planet. We care about the world around us, driving a type of passion that is unparalleled.

Over the past couple of decades, we have worked hard to reduce our scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions, by spearheading initiatives such as investments in wind farm and solar technology, reducing single use plastics in packaging, replacing lighting, and encouraging EV use. We are well on our way to becoming carbon neutral in scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2025 and this progress should be celebrated.

This year, we are going to tackle scope 3 carbon emissions by committing to finding a more responsible way to build our products. We are introducing a product material refresh starting with our top-selling mobile power products, transitioning away from virgin plastics to post-consumer recycled plastics and plastic-free packaging. Sounds easy? It is not. There are certainly ways to claim “recycled” materials while bypassing the research, relationships, science, and endless hours of work required to find the best possible materials that not only retain the same level of quality as their virgin plastic counterparts, but in the most responsible way. But nothing worth doing is ever easy, and when you’re doing the hard but right thing, keeping your core values and north stars vividly top of mind reminds us that we are on the right path.

When I think about the difference a company of our size and influence can make on the planet, the decisions we make as an organization become obvious. I am proud to work alongside you to make our shared vision a reality. Our dedication to doing the right thing inspires me and together, we will continue to work towards a more sustainable future.
