HARDWARE INFORMATION

1. What chipset is used in F7D1102?

The chipset that is used in the F7D1102 is the RT8188CUS.

2. Does the F5D7000ecE (MicraDigital) work on Windows Vista?

The F5D7000eCE card has been tested on Windows Vista.  However, the software and driver only works if used with Windows Vista's own software.

FIRMWARE UPGRADE METHOD

1. Is there product support for Windows 7 users?

Older Belkin networking products (routers, adapters, etc.) may not have software for Windows 7.  However, your Belkin product will still work under Windows 7 operating system.  The software, driver, and firmware of your Belkin product for Windows Vista will work on Windows 7 smoothly.

QUICK TIP:  Software updates will be posted as they become available.

NOTE:  Some updates may still be in the process of going through Microsoft's official certification program.  Although they have been thoroughly tested, they may present a warning message when the driver is being installed.  These drivers will install on 32 bit operating systems but not on 64 bit systems, which is the normal and expected behavior.

2. Is there a firmware update to use WPA with the F5D7330?

In order to use WPA on the F5D7330, a firmware update may be needed. WPA is supported from version 1.00.09 of the firmware.  The update is available on this link.

WIRELESS SECURITY AND CONNECTIVITY

1. Can I use WPA2 with my Wireless Adapter?

Yes you can.  The Wireless Client Utility that comes with the adapter supports WPA2.  Windows XP with Service Pack 3 and Windows Vista offer support for WPA2 without additional updates.

NOTE:  If you want to use Windows Wireless Zero Configuration to manage the wireless network, you will need to have Windows XP with service pack 2 as a minimum.

With Windows XP and SP2, you will need a Microsoft update for WPA2 that can be obtained from this link.

After installation you will need to use the Windows Wireless Zero Configuration in the control panel to configure the adapter.  WPA2 should now be available and work correctly.

2. How Can I Improve My Signal While Using My USB Network Adapter?

There are different methods for improving your wireless signal.  Here are several ways to boost your signal on your USB Network Adapter.

  • Try moving the adapter to a port that is on or near the front of your computer.
  • Move your router and your computer closer together.
  • Change the wireless channel on your router.

QUICK TIP:  Walls or large objects (especially metal) around your router can obstruct your wireless signal; simply move the router to a more open area to improve your wireless signal.

TROUBLESHOOTING

During the hardware installation of your F5D7000 version 6 Wireless G Desktop Card if you receive a message requesting the driver RT61.sys/.inf then direct the wizard at the following location.  "C:\Program Files\Belkin\Belkin 802.11g Wireless Card Configuration Utility\Driver"

The hardware installation wizard should locate the driver and complete the installation of the card.

At the end of the software installation two windows appear at the same time.  One will require you to reboot the computer and the other to plug in the adapter.  Just click, "No don`t restart now" and plug your adapter. Windows should finish installing the device (It may ask for the Windows CD).  Once it has successfully installed, you may restart the computer.

If you are trying to configure the encryption on your adapter to use a 13 digit passcode e.g. Z12FGC34D3936 then you need to select `alphanumeric` in the Belkin Wireless Utility and enter the code.  It should then connect without any problems.

Scenario: Laptop does not go to stand-by; WinXPDisableWirelessZeroConfigation.exe using 100% of CPU time

This was an issue with the original version of the software for this card, to resolve this download the latest version of the software from here.  To install properly, remove your existing version, reboot and then install this new version of the software.

Alternatively, end the process WinXPDisableWirelessZeroConfigation.exe (note the typo) from Task Manager and delete the file.  It is in the folder C:\Program Files\Belkin\Belkin 54Mbps Wireless Utility\TOOL in a default installation.
