iPad® cannot connect to the Wi-Fi

Here are the possible reasons why your iPad® cannot connect to the Wi-Fi and the troubleshooting tips you can follow to resolve them.

1. You entered an incorrect Wi-Fi password

Solution:  Verify your Wi-Fi security settings

If you are unable to connect to the Wi-Fi with your iPad, you may need to verify if you have provided the correct Wi-Fi password.  Also, ensure that you have entered it in the correct case as it is case-sensitive.  To know how to check the Wi-Fi password of your Belkin router through your computer, click here.

2. The Wireless MAC Filter feature of your router is enabled

Solution:  Verify if your router’s Wireless MAC Filter is enabled

Wireless MAC Filter is a security feature of your router which will allow or prevent access to the Wi-Fi using the Media Access Control (MAC) Address of your wireless devices.  If this feature is enabled, it may prevent some wireless devices to connect to your Wi-Fi.  To learn how to configure this feature, click here.  You can also add the MAC address of your iPad in the client list to allow it to access your Wi-Fi.

3. Your router may not be properly connected to your cable or ADSL modem

Solution:  Check the physical connections of your router to your cable or ADSL modem

Make sure that the physical connection of your router to your cable or ADSL modem is not loose.  Otherwise, the internet connection will not be properly established.

4.  Connecting to another network with the same Wi-Fi name

Solution:  Personalize your router’s wireless settings

Your router’s default Wi-Fi name is “Belkin”.  If another network in your area has the same Wi-Fi name, this may confuse you as to which Wi-Fi to connect to.  To resolve this, you need to personalize your Wi-Fi name so you can easily identify it.  To know how to do this using the Belkin router's classic web-based setup page, click here. For Belkin Dashboard, click here.

5. There may be problems with your Internet Service Provider (ISP)

Solution:
Reset your connection to the Wi-Fi

If you are experiencing this issue only with your iPad, you may need to reset its connection to the Wi-Fi.  To do so, you can try the basic troubleshooting tips below:
  • Removing a network from the preferred network list on your iPad - Removing your network from the preferred network list removes all settings associated with the network you are having problems with.
  • Resetting the network settings of your iPad - Resetting the network settings removes all the current settings stored on your iPad which may resolve most of the connectivity issues you may be encountering.
You may also try to power OFF your iPad by pressing and holding the Home User-added image button and the Power button at the same time until a red slider appears at the top of the screen.

Once the red slider appears, swipe the slider to power OFF the device.  Switch it back ON after a few seconds then try connecting it again to the Wi-Fi.

6. Your iPad may be getting an invalid IP address from your router

Solution:  Releasing and renewing your iPad’s IP address

An IP address can be compared to your home address.  In this case however, it can be referred to as the address of a particular device in your network.  IP addresses can help you distinguish one computer from another.

Your router may not be giving your iPad a valid IP address that is why you cannot connect to the internet.  Releasing and renewing your iPad’s IP address can resolve this issue.  For instructions  on how to do this, click here.
