Accessing shared media files using your Playstation®3

Connecting your PlayStation®3 (PS3™) to your Belkin router allows you to access shared media files and devices in your network.  Read on to learn how to utilize this feature using your PS3™ console.

NOTE:  This article assumes that you are using a North American PS3™.  If you're using an Asian version, the confirm (X) and cancel (O) buttons' functionality may be reversed.
 

Step 1:
Connect the PS3™ to your Belkin router.  For instructions on how to connect wirelessly, click here.  To connect using the Ethernet cable, click here.

Step 2:
Connect your USB drive with media files to a USB port on the router.  For instructions, click here.

Step 3:
Make sure the Media Server feature is enabled on the router.  Click here to learn how to do this on both the old and new Belkin Dashboard. 
 
NOTE:  If you need to change the name of the Media Server, click here.

Step 4:
Power ON your PlayStation®3 and then go to Settings > Network Settings.

Step 5:
Scroll down to make sure that the Media Server Connection is set to Enabled.

Step 6:
Using the PS3™ controller, select the icon for the media you wish to share (Photos, Music or Video) then press X.

NOTE:  In this example, Video is selected.

The PS3™ console will automatically scan for media servers connected to your network.

Step 7:
Select the name of your Media Server then press X.  To double check the name or rename the Media Server, click here.

You should be able to access and share the content of your Media Server.
