FAQ
I am having trouble getting my iPhone to pair with the Doorbell during setup. I am getting an error code but not a connection. What can I do?
-
Here are a few things to try if your Doorbell and iPhone aren’t pairing:
- Sometimes the cache and both the iPhone and Doorbell need to be reset. Start with turning your iPhone all the way off. Remove the Doorbell from the bracket and press the reset button on the back of the Doorbell (it is best to use a pen to gently press the reset button) until the lights turn off. Place the Doorbell back on the bracket. Once the front of the doorbell is showing a blue light, restart your iPhone. Once your iPhone has fully restarted, touch the upper back of the phone below the status light on the Doorbell. It should provide a message that the iPhone has detected a Doorbell & you can continue with the setup.
- Older iPhones (iPhone 7 and older) may not have the ability to use touch pairing. If that is the case, follow the instructions to enter the unique HomeKit code for your device in the Home app on your iPhone.
Links that may help you: My Doorbell keeps getting disconnected from my WiFi network and sometimes doesn't reconnect. What can I do about it?
-
There can be a few things that are usually the cause of the Wemo Doorbell disconnecting:
- If the electrical connection isn’t secure, the Doorbell can be repeatedly disconnected. Please check the following:
- Remove the Doorbell and make sure the wires are securely attached to the bracket.
- If the wires connected to the bracket are too long or are a heavy gauge, they can obstruct the bracket and Doorbell from connecting securely.
- The wiring may need to be repositioned or shortened to avoid obstructing the connection. If you are uncomfortable working with wiring, please contact a Certified Electrician.
- Doorbell Transformer is too weak. Doorbells use a Transformer to convert normal household current (110/120V AC) to 12/24V AC/DC. If there is a long distance between the Transformer and the Doorbell, you may need to use a different Transformer to provide enough power for a reliable connection. Typically, a 12/24V, 30VA Transformer would allow you to handle longer distance.
- Poor WiFi signal strength. If your router is a long way from the Wemo Doorbell, the WiFi signal may not be strong enough as it works through walls etc. over a long distance.
- If you have a Mesh network, consider adding a node (or repositioning an existing node) as close to the Doorbell as possible.
- The Wemo Doorbell can operate on one of 2 bands, 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz. If your WiFi Network allows, set the Wemo Doorbell to operate on the 2.4 GHz band. This will provide a longer distance WiFi connection. Please refer to your Router manual to determine if/how a device can be directed to use the 2.4 GHz Band.
- Consider adding a WiFi Extender, and position it as close to the Wemo Doorbell as possible.

My image quality isn’t as good as I would like it to be. Can I improve it?
-
Here are a few things to consider when improving image quality:
- Poor WiFi signal strength can result in loss of WiFi connection as well as poor image quality. The WiFi signal may not be strong enough as it works through walls etc. or over a long distance.

- The Doorbell image on the Apple Home app’s home screen is reduced in vertical size which results in a blurry image. It is not intended to provide the image or information of someone approaching your home. However, by tapping the screen the end user will immediately see a full-size image and have access to audio, face recognition, time, and day, as well as the option to instant access to the video library.

Why does the Wemo Doorbell have a “fisheye” effect to the video image?
-
The Wemo Smart Video Doorbell has the largest Field-of-View on the market (223o diagonal FOV). This allows end-users to monitor a much larger area and improve their level of security. To fit an image of that size on the width of an iPhone screen, all manufacturers of Video Doorbell cameras utilize a panoramic hemispherical image (fisheye) to capture the full picture. With the Wemo Doorbell’s HD camera, the end-user can zoom in to inspect the full image area.
I just started using Apple Home. How do I get the Wemo Doorbell to record Videos?
-
If you have an iCloud subscription (50GB), Apple allows the storage of Doorbell videos at no additional cost. Apple Home is one of the fastest growing Smart Home ecosystems in the market. It provides advanced features as well as state-of-the-art security. As a result, it is easy to miss some of the features and capabilities offered when setting up a device with Apple Home.
