Obtaining an IP address automatically on a computer with Windows 8, 8.1, or 10 operating system

Automatically obtaining an IP address from a DHCP server such as a router is an easy way to connect your computer to the network. Instead of manually entering the IP address, Subnet mask and Default gateway, these are automatically assigned by the DHCP server. You also need to set the network adapter on your computer to obtain an IP address automatically.

To obtain an IP address automatically on a computer with Windows 8, Windows 8.1, or Windows 10 operating system, follow the steps below:

Windows 10
Windows 8 / 8.1

 

Windows 10

Step 1:

Right-click the Network icon located at the bottom-right corner of the Desktop screen then click Open Network and Sharing Center.

 

 

Step 2:
Click Change adapter settings.

Step 3:
On the Ethernet Properties window, select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) then click Properties.

 

Step 4:
Click the radio button beside Obtain an IP address automatically then click OK.

 

Step 5:
Click Close.

Windows 8 / 8.1

Step 1:
Press the Windows key + D on your keyboard to show the Desktop.

 

Step 2:
Right-click the Network icon located at the bottom-right corner of the Desktop screen then click Open Network and Sharing Center.

 

 

Step 3:
Click Change adapter settings.

 

 

Step 4:
On the Ethernet Properties window, select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) then click Properties.

 

 

Step 5:
Click the radio button beside Obtain an IP address automatically then click OK.

 

 

Step 6:
Click Close.
