WHAT IS POWER DELIVERY?

WHAT IS USB POWER DELIVERY?

A.K.A. USB PD

USB Power Delivery is a charging technology. It uses USB-C cables and connectors to deliver higher levels of power to your devices. This has two benefits: one, faster charging, and two, more power for larger devices.

WHY IS IT BETTER?

USB-C Bit Rate: Up to 10 Gbps 20X faster than USB 2.0 12X faster than FireWire

Define “Super Fast”

USB PD or USB Power Delivery will charge your device up to 70% faster than standard 5W charging* and provide more power to charge tablets and laptops quickly.

One Solution

  • All devices with Power Delivery connect using a USB-C cable.
  • Power can flow in either direction so it’s possible to share power between devices, even from your phone to a friend’s phone.
  • USB-C connectors are small, smart, and capable of transmitting large amounts of power.
  • You can safely use the same cable to charge your smartphone, your tablet and your laptop – no separate power brick for your laptop is required.

Safer, How?

  • USB-C—the connector used in USB Power Delivery—is cutting edge technology. It has been designed hand-in-hand with Power Delivery, to handle these new high levels of power. Explore the benefits of USB-C cables at our USB-C Resource Center.
  • Other “fast charging” products may use older connectors. USB-A was first introduced in 1996; it was designed to supply much smaller amounts of power than what is needed by modern phones and tablets today.
  • The USB Power Delivery Chipset automatically detects the connected device, whether it’s a small phone or a large laptop. It then delivers the exact power required for fastest possible charging, but not too much which could damage circuitry.
  • The Compatibility Chipset detects the device brand, such as Apple or Samsung. It will then behave just like the one originally supplied with the device.
