- How to back up settings on a Belkin router
The Save/Backup Settings is a feature in Belkin routers that lets you back up all configurations made to the router. You can use this feature is if you need to reset your Belkin router to its factory default settings. Instead of manually setting up the router from scratch after the reset, you can use the backup file to load all the previous configurations that you have already set on your Belkin router.
Before starting, take note of the following:
- Make sure that your Belkin router is connected to a computer using an ethernet cable.
- This article does NOT apply to Belkin routers using the Belkin Dashboard. For more information, click here.
On your computer, open any browser (e.g., Internet Explorer®, Firefox®, Chrome™ or Safari®).
In the Address bar, enter your router's IP address and press [Enter] to access the router's web-based setup page. The default IP address of a Belkin router is 192.168.2.1. For instructions on how to check the IP address of your router, click here.
NOTE: Screenshots may vary depending on your router's model.
Click Login on the upper right corner.
Once prompted to log in, leave the Password field blank and click the Submit button.
Under Utilities, click Save/Backup Settings.
In the Save/Backup current settings window, click Save.
A window will appear, asking you to save the configuration file. Click Save once prompted.
QUICK TIP: The configuration file uses a .cfg file extension name.
Select your desired location for the configuration file then click Save. It is recommended to save your file on your computer's Desktop so it is easier to locate.
