Ensure parallel printer adapter is properly connected to both the printer and USB port.
Shut down and restart the computer
Verify that the USB port on your Mac/iMac is functioning correctly by using it with some other USB device.
Verify that your printer is a built in PCL printer, see questions above.
Make sure no other USB printer drivers are installed, since they can cause conflicts.
