"The new 5-Port Network Switch
sells for $78 and lets you share files
and a regular Internet connection

Once you have installed such a network

lights that let you see who is connected
at a glance. Moving up in price to
$138 list ($119 at discounters) gets
Belkin's 4-Port Gateway Router, which
connects one less computer but lets
everyone share a high-speed DSL or
Cable modem line. Now we're talking
business, as they say. You still have
the file and peripheral sharing features
you have with any network. An additional
feature with this router is a firewall
that protects the network from unauthorized
access. A particularly nice feature
of Belkin products is a lifetime warranty
and lifetime free tech support."

Adaptable,

"I was very impressed
with the Nostromo n50 SpeedPad. It
has a robust and stable set of drivers
and management utilities to assist
the player in mapping the keys for
his or her favorite game, combined
with a highly ergonomic design. Mix
the Nostromo in with your favorite
right-handed input device, such as
a mouse or joystick, and you can nearly
eliminate the need for a keyboard
in all but the most demanding of games
With a very reasonable price, solid
operation, wide support for multiple
genres, a lifetime warranty, and flexibility
in mapping a wide range of functions,
the Nostromo is one tough controller
to beat."

"a more comfortable
design with a familiar button layout
gives the N30/N50 setup a bit more
appeal than the GM2. Plus, this baby
has a sleek, stylish, futuristic motif
because 'you never get a second chance
to make a first impression.' This
thing looks way cool. The N30/N50
combo is built to make first-person
shooting games easier, with all the
essential buttons at your fingertips
plus a couple extras that the lab
guys at Belkin thought would be of
help
The N30 comes equipped with
the standard left and right mouse
buttons as well as a scroll wheel.
But Belkin went one better and included
a right thumb button like that found
on the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer.
This works great for actions like
quickly dropping weapons in Counter-Strike
or as a 'back' button while browsing
the Internet. Pretty handy
fans
who want to rid themselves of all
those unnecessary keyboard buttons
will find the Nostromo N50 Speedpad
very appealing
This is a great
peripheral setup
this is a great
gaming solution for the keyboard-challenged
gamer. Belkin is offering easier,
more precise gameplay in a very familiar
format with little to no learning
curve."

p45 GamePad - Quote:
"The Nostromo
p45 is loaded with features
(It features) precision engineered
angles and curves designed for ergonomic
comfort and extended game play...
The first thing you will notice upon
picking up the p45 is how well it
fits into your hands. A common complaint
among many gamers is the small size
of most gamepads. Fortunately, the
p45 addresses this issue and you have
more than enough space for your hands
to breathe. Part of this is thanks
to the larger triggers found on the
front of the controller. Distinguishing
between the 4 triggers is now hassle
free. Another innovative feature of
the p45 is the silver action stabilizer.
This arch found on the end of each
handle allows you to steady the controller
for extended play. We found this very
useful when playing driving games
such as GT3. Speaking of driving games,
the driving mode option, which is
activated by the Mode button, is a
very nice feature indeed. It allows
you to have precise control and response
that is usually lost in gamepads and
found on expensive steering wheel
kits. The p45 has been strongly built
and can withstand quite a bit of shock
with no harmful side effects. This
gamepad will last you a very long
time
The Nostromo p45 is a comfortable
and versatile gamepad that comes at
a very affordable price. If you are
on the market for a gamepad that offers
more than just copycat design, the
p45 is a solid purchase."

6-port Hub - Quote:
"When
compared to the first-generation 1394
hub from SIIG, the Belkin 1394 hub
is a sight for sore eyes. Someone
at Belkin had their milk and cookies
that day when they were sketching
its design - its curvy sides reflect
far more than pure beauty; there's
a significant amount of functionality
integrated into this splendid device
Although
one may think that it may become top-heavy
or unstable when connecting numerous
rigid 1394 cables, the truth is that
cable management is this hub's best
feature. All of its cables and ports
point to the back and angle down.
A removable 'connector bay cover',
as Belkin calls it, helps to guide
and cluster the cables, and hides
some of the 'mess'
.In the words
of Bart Simpson, "Cool!"

2-Port
SOHO Series KVM Switch
- Quote:
""(The
2-Port SOHO KVM Switch) is a radical
departure from more traditional KVM
units. This unit accurately aims at
the SOHO or the computer professional
who have the need for a KVM
When Belkin designed the F1DS102T,
they chose a unique design that, in
my opinion, better addresses the needs
of the user than any other KVM units
before it. The main reason for the
new shape is an advanced cable management
strategy, which directs all of the
cables out of the back of the unit
using a removable cable shroud. The
cable shroud snaps in place on the
back of the unit in such a way that
the cables stay organized, out of
the way, and hidden from view. I found
this to be a more unique cable solution
than any of the other KVM units that
we tested, and personally really helpful
The
performance of the F1DS102T in our
testing was good, and we didn't really
find any problems. The F1DS102T produced
an excellent picture and had no trouble
switching between systems
Overall,
I found the F1DS102T to be an excellent
product with a very unique and functional
design. Belkin has done a good job
of adding new, very useful features
to the KVM arena with this product.
Other companies are going to have
to add these new features in order
to stay competitive with Belkin"

"There are quite a few FireWire
hubs on the market and the first question
people have is: "does it work?"
In a word, yes. The Belkin FireWire
6-Port Hub worked fine with my Titanium
PowerBook
Here is where the Belkin
gets the jump on the competition.
It comes in an attractive silver/gray
case that is covered in clear plastic.
The included stand allows you to stand
the hub up vertically, or you can
lay it on its side if you prefer.
A clear plastic (or rubber?) footing
keeps it in place when lying horizontally.
Either way, the unit looks great on
your desk, and compliments my Titanium
PowerBook perfectly
Let's face
it. Hubs aren't very exciting. But
if you are going to look at something
every day, why not get something that
looks good? The Belkin FireWire 6-Port
Hub looks good and does the job. What
more could you ask for?"

n40 and n45 GamePads -
Quote:
"A decent array of controls,
no doubt. All of the buttons have
good tactile feedback, and are easily
reachable when grasping the controller
Coming
from a Gravis Gamepad pro as my everyday
pad, the beefs I had with it (Gravis
GamePad) was that it's a little too
light, and a little too small. The
Nostromos improve on both of these,
adding a bit of weight and a bit of
size. The grip was comfortable (and)
in terms of ergonomics, the Nostromo
line does well
As a USB pad,
installation of these badboys is a
snap. No messing with resource allocations
on your soundcard, just drop in the
CD after you plug in the pad and away
you go. Belkin's software is surprisingly
good for a first attempt. No long-ass
intro movie required to just install
the drivers
the first time I
used the Nostromo, I broke my all-time
high score. The D-Pad is much more
precise than the gravis ones, and
the stick on the n45 is even better
As
for the other games, well the pads
performed great. Buttons register
properly, pads are accurate, and the
sticks are smooth and comfortable
So,
at a price of 19.99 for the n40 and
24.99 for the n45, I can safely say
you're getting your money's worth
in the Nostromo line. Lots of buttons,
great software, a few nice extras
and no dough wasted on gimmicky "features".

8-port Switch - Quote:
"If you look at the selection
of switches available at your local
computer store, you'll find that most
share a common appearance of being
too boxy-looking. That's why Belkin
launched their new line of network
switches: to provide top-performance
and good reliability for your network,
yet at the same time, make it so that
the product has an elegant and modern
appearance
Belkin also included
a user's manual and, surprisingly,
an installation CD with their 8-port
switch. The manual was very well written
and goes into the process of setting
up the switch and also the process
of setting up the network settings
in Windows. This, I think, can be
very useful to the novice network
administrator
Performance of
the switch was very good. Data transfers
for everything from files to printer
queues were very quick
The Belkin
8-port and 5-port switches are very
unique network switches. The combination
of unconventional looks and great
performance makes this an excellent
network switch for the home or small
office."
