Pulse is a low-cost, low-complexity network monitoring solution that lets Small to Medium Business IT managers deliver superior uptime, while fully optimizing their networks
(Compton, CA) - April 18, 2007 – The new Belkin Pulse is a network-monitoring system that combines the simplicity of an appliance with the low cost and on-demand availability of a hosted software solution. Targeting SMBs, Pulse also provides remote access and analog-modem communication backup.
Pulse monitors anything with an IP address, e.g., Windows® PCs, UNIX® servers, routers, printers, and switches. Designed for "IT light" deployment, Pulse automatically discovers networked devices and configures them from a point-and-click menu. Network and device status is then securely relayed to a customized web portal, providing a single Dashboard for viewing of the entire network. Pulse can monitor devices through SNMP, TCP/IP (e.g., ping or port number), or through a simple Windows agent.
When there's a problem—if a router doesn't respond, or an Exchange server runs out of disk space—Pulse alerts the IT manager by email or pager, automatically escalating to a designated backup, if necessary. Pulse's built-in analog modem can contact the web portal even if the network is down, and the hosted Dashboard service is smart enough to alert the IT manager if the on-site appliance hasn't checked in.
Pulse provides secure remote access to the network, without requiring a VPN or firewall modification, or public IP addresses. Using a secure remote access tunnel, IT managers can connect to the Pulse appliance behind their network's firewall, and then reach servers, routers, and other devices for maintenance and remote management.
The Pulse Dashboard displays key performance indicators in easy-to-read graphs, storing all statistics in a database that's easily integrated into your network optimization and planning exercises. You can email a chart or export all data to CSV in just a few clicks.
Belkin Pulse is built on Jumpnode Systems' appliance-enabled software (AeS) service platform, a tightly integrated on-site appliance and hosted software architecture for monitoring and remote management of devices and equipment.
