Under the "Internet/WAN --> DNS" screen, when the "Automatic from ISP" box is checked, my client gets not only my ISP's name servers, but also the address of the Belkin router itself. When this Belkin name server is active on my client, browsing is very slow, often timing out. (I googled this issue, and found at least two other folks having the same problem - http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=297834 and http://www.mepis.org/node/3221). I can modify my "/etc/resolv.conf" (the file where DNS server addresses are found on Debian GNU/Linux Etch) and comment out or remove the Belkin address, and then browsing works fine. I've been unable to find anywhere in the Belkin setup to disable the router's address being fed to my DHCP client. I've even updated the firmware to the most recent release (F5D7230-4_US_8.01.21). I can kludge around the problem with some client-side hacks, but I'd prefer to fix the problem at the source, and tell the router not to feed its own address as a name server. I could also firm-code in my ISP's addresses in the router setup, and turn off the "Automatic from ISP" box, but then if my ISP changes its DNS servers somewhere down the line, my network is likely to break, and I'm not likely to immediately think to check and change these settings. Again, the proper fix is to be able to tell the router not to feed its own address out as a DNS server. A final alternative would be for the Belkin router to function properly as a DNS server so that the slowdowns/time-outs do not occur. Thanks for any solutions you can provide! -- Kent
